Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor. If the mower/weedeater is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank. When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws and count the number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position. That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns they were in/out.Please rate me, ThanksGood Luck, I hope this helped
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
Disconnected, dirty or fouled spark plugs are common causes for engines that won`t start. For small engines, spark plugs typically need to be replaced every season or after 25 hours of use. You should also check to make sure the spark plug gap is set correctly.
A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
A dirty carburetor is one of the most common causes for a lawn mower not being able to start after sitting unused for months or years at a time.
This could be due to a number of reasons, such as a fuel filter that is clogged, a faulty fuel pump, or a blocked fuel line. Other issues include a faulty carburetor, a misaligned float, or a worn gasket.
Clogged Fuel Injectors If the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won`t start, it could be because fuel isn`t getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.
Clip one end of a spark tester to the ignition cable and ground other end to the cylinder head. Spin the flywheel rapidly (at least 350 RPM) and watch for a spark in the tester window. If there`s no spark the coil will need replaced.
These include a bad fuel pump relay or control module, a blown fuse, a wiring fault, loose or corroded wiring connector at the pump, or even an issue with the anti-theft system. Until these other possibilities have been checked out and eliminated, the fuel pump should be the last thing that`s replaced.

How to get a rusty lawn mower blade off? – Briggs & Stratton Lawn-Boy Insight Series 21-Inch 190cc 650 Series Gas Powered Engine Variable Speed Self-Propelled Lawn Mower
ANSWER : Many times the bolt that holds the blade in place is seized so I some time use a vice grip and snap on the blade so it won’t turn and put a piece of pipe on my ratchet or Johnson bar and put extra pressure to turn the bolt out. Don’t put so much torque you wreck your ratchet. I have taken many off that way. Heating does help sometimes. I had one that I used a hammer and hit the Johnson bar with sharp hits when you put presser to turn out. that worked also.

ANSWER : All, I thought my carb was shot, so I replaced it. Still, start but no run (and had to use starting fluid). THEN!!! I noticed the spring to the “rev limiter” (just below and towards rear of carb) was not “tight”. The stupid bracket that holds the end of that spring had been bent down ~1/16″ and that caused all this heartache. CHECK YOUR REV LIMITER!!!
