16 Inch Gas Chain Saw MCC1635AK

The chainsaw is about 15 years old with good compression. The problem started when it runs at high speed all the time. I bought a carburettor kit and changed all the diaphragms, needle valve and gaskets. I also changed the fuel filter. Now it starts, idles and runs under no-load but won’t cut for more than a sew seconds. I have tried fiddling with the three screw adjustments on the carburettor but nothing seems to work
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Check the air cleaner and muffler for plugging. One screw adjusts the idle stop (idle speed) position and the H and L jet screws set fuel mixture for high speed and idle speed mixture respectively. Turn both jet screws CW to stops (lightly) then back each out CCW 1-1/2 turns. This is a basic setting and should allow the engine to start and run. Start the engine and allow to warm up. Pull the throttle full on and adjust H CW until the engine starts to speed up, but 4-strokes. Correct adjustment is when the engine 4–strokes running free, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L needle CW until the engine idles fairly well, but allows the engine to ‘follow the throttle’. Adjust the idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine will continue to run. Hope this helps!

This could be a number of things and is most likely fuel or storage related. Over a short period of time, fuel will become stale. If the unit is stored with stale gasoline, the system will become clogged or restricted. Fuel related failures are not warranty.
The two most common reasons a chainsaw won`t idle are a blocked air filter and an idle screw out of adjustment. Other possible causes include: Dirty Air Filter. Idle Screw out of Adjustment.
Chainsaw Chain Keeps Moving at Idle – FIX A – Faulty Clutch

Either replace you clutch, clutch spring, or tighten the spring. There could be lots of sawdust or wood chips stuck in the clutch, if so get rid of this.

The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the chainsaw engine to stall.
STIHL currently recommends that you do not store or use fuel older than 60 days, and preferably no longer than 30 days, even with a stabilizer. Read more about storing your outdoor power equipment.
The most likely culprit is a dirty or clogged air filter. Issues with your fuel pump or fuel filter can also cause your engine to idle then die with any throttle. If you have an older car, it could also be a bad carburetor.

It’s brand new, when I finally get it started it will run good for about 1 min. or less, and then it dies. I pull the choke out all the way, pull it a couple of times, push it half way in, it starts but it’s like it doesn’t have the power to turn the chain, bogging out and then it dies, I will never buy another homelite product, or recommend anyone else to, this is my second one, the first one leaked gas, Home Depot really should quit selling them, there making you look bad too!!

Strimmer starts and runs but cuts out when at full power
ANSWER : Easiest place to look first would be to see if one of the fuel hoses has split. May be hard to see but that would cause it to **** air instead of fuel. Eventually, the split or hole would become so big that it wouldn’t stay running at all, and probably not even start. If that doesn’t do it, make sure the fuel you have is still good and try running a little Seafoam with the fuel and see if it clears up. After that, I would be looking at carefully cleaning the carburetor which may require dis-assembly as well as new gaskets etc.

Cranks up and runs fine ,then starts cutting out then runs fine and starts cutting out again
ANSWER : I am no pro but my suggestion to you is if you have changed your spark plug recently check the gap on it and make sure it is right and make sure is the right spark plug for it. Also check the oil if it is low the motor as it gets hot will start to sputter or if it has to much oil it will have an air lock and blow you Lhead gasket after a while. Another thing to check is the air filter to make sure it is clean and check the timing with this if you don’t trust your self ask an repair expert for your brand of mower.

ANSWER : Hi 5flash… Get an assistant and a can of starter fluid. Remove the air cleaner and spray some starter fluid into the air intake. Start it up and spray the starter fluid as you move it to high idle, repeat until it works properly. Joe
