This could be caused by not enough air getting into the system, not enough fuel getting into the system, or the fuel/air mix not burning well enough once it gets into the cylinder. It`s probably a clogged air filter. Could also be a clogged fuel filter or a bad spark plug.
If your riding lawn mower engine dies when you release the brake, there`s a good chance the mower`s seat switch is broken or unplugged. The seat switch stops the engine when it doesn`t detect an operator sitting on the seat to prevent the mower from moving without a driver.
Check that all the safety switches are working correctly, it is possible the seat switch is bad or loose plug/ bad wire. Also if battery weak or charging system weak/faulty the clutch will stall out engine, charge battery up with charger and try.
Clutch pedals in manual cars stay on the floor if there`s a failed clutch release bearing, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, or clutch linkage.
Braking Causes Car to Cut Out – Reasons
If the torque converter is broken, or if there is a low fluid level in the transmission, the converter will not do its job, and the car will be unable to maintain power at low speeds, which causes the engine to shut off.
What is likely happening is the car is idling too low in gear, which is what is happening when you come to a stop. It will only do this once it is warmed up. Most likely you have a problem with your IAC (idle air control) valve. They get gummed up with carbon deposits and stick.
Being Overworked. One of the most common reasons that a lawn mower might stall while it is cutting grass is that it is being overworked. This is a mechanism that is intentionally incorporated into the mower to prevent the motor from being blown.
If either of them are failing, they can both whine or cause a rotational noise, and they put additional drag on the engine while the clutch pedal is pressed, potentially causing the stalling you are experiencing. In both cases, the transmission (or engine) must be removed to repair this.
The clutch master cylinder may be leaking internally. When this happens, and you step on the clutch pedal while in gear, the seals in the master cylinder slowly leak so the hydraulic pressure slowly releases the clutch so that the engine stalls when the clutch engages.
Tractor may be starving for fuel.
The fuel tank can develop a vacuum. This could cause fuel to stop running to the engine – causing it to stall. If this is the case, give it an hour or two, and the tank pressure will reset and equalize. Then the tractor will run again.

When re-installing anti-seize compound needs to used on the crankshaft so the new clutch assembly doesn’t seize on the shaft. To tighten the center bolt you must hold the flywheel in place by blocking it. This center bolt must be torqued to 45-55 ft fts. Also the new pto clutch needs burnishing in. Most new clutches come with instruction on this procedure.
