There are three main reasons for a chain to come off: Incorrect bar and/or chain for the saw; check to be sure that you are using the proper chain pitch, gauge and number of drive links to match the guide bar. Chain not properly tensioned; It is normal for a new chain to stretch and require frequent adjustment.
The engine throttle is operated by the trigger under the rear handle of the saw. Unless the lock-out switch above the rear handle is also pressed, the throttle cannot move from the idle position, and the chain will not be driven.
If your Stihl chainsaw starts up with a reassuring puttering sound, but dies when you pull the throttle trigger, there likely is an issue with the fuel, but the carburetor could need adjustment. If the saw stalls while it`s idling, it`s almost surely a misadjusted carburetor.
Electric chainsaws, on the other hand, don`t even have a recoil rope. They start with the simple press of a button. Say goodbye to spark plugs, air filters, and gasoline. Instead, the most important maintenance task you`ll need to perform on a corded chainsaw is to keep the bar and chain oiled.
The throttle interlock trigger prevents the throttle from engaging accidentally. If the interlock is not depressed, the throttle cannot engage. The feller must have his left hand firmly on the handle to depress the interlock and trigger at the same time.
One of the advantages of electric chainsaws that beginning chainsaw users particularly like is the minimal effort needed to start them. There`s no throttle to open and no cord to pull, just a couple of buttons to press or squeeze.
Generally speaking, the chain should be a little loose on the chain saw guide bar, but not loose enough that the drive links come out of the bar nose. The bar links should feel like they are raising up, but not actually come out of the guide bar.
Check for any debris around the bar and make sure it`s not worn down. If it is, you`ll notice that the rails are shallow. If that`s the case, it will need to be replaced. You will also want to make sure your chain oiler is in good order and that the chain itself does not have any broken teeth.
If your chainsaw still starts and then stops working, check the air filter. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty or damaged. Another reason that your chainsaw starts and then stops working could be that the spark arrestor is dirty or clogged. If this is the case, clean it with a wire brush.

How does the spring on the throttle trigger supposed to be placed to maintain tension for a working lever on an Echo 2100 grass trimmer? What is the trick to placing the spring correctly on the trigger mechanism? I have placed the spring on the plastic trigger mechanism, but there doesn’t seem to be any tension for the trigger to spring back. I placed the cable first in the slot of the trigger and then place the spring into position, but the trigger doesn’t spring back into the starting position. What am I doing wrong? There seems to be only one way to place the spring on the trigger mechanism. Can you please provide me with some sound advice or e-mail me a picture of how it is suppose to be assembled in case I’m doing something wrong? Thanks, Don

How do I replace the trigger on the Huskie 350? Does it just snap out, is there a pin to drive out or do I have to separate the case. If I have to separate the case, how?
ANSWER : To remove the the trigger there is a alloy pin that needs be be driven out. Before you can take the trigger out, you need to remove the trigger lock ( dead man ) to remove the trigger lock, gently pry the two halfs of the tank apart at the rear opening where the lock sits, this will allow the back end of the throttle lock to pop up, once up pull the throttle lock toward the rear of the saw and it will come away ( bayonet fitting in the tank ) the trigger will now come out with its spring once the pin is removed.

Have a Husqvarna 41 about 10 years old. Takes a lot of pulling to get it going but once running it woks allright. Lately it will not start and after new gas and plug it starts but when I engage the trigger to start cutting it totally cuts out and I have to pull it many times to get it going again And when I pull on trigger it dies after 20 seconds. Any ideas on what the problem is?

Sounds like you have dirt/debris in your caburetor jets,fuel passages or a diaphgram that is becoming non-flexible. Check/Clean/Replace your Air Filter, a dirty air filter can make your engine run to rich with fuel.
Note: ALWAYS USE COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN YOUR JETS AND PASSAGES, VERY IMPORTANT.
Note:Before you disassemble the carburetor:Mark each piece with a awl, or some kind of instrument that will make an alignment scratch before you disassemble the carburetor into separate pieces.That way you will know which way it goes back together when you reassemble it.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or by using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that, and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.Be sure to check your fuel tank for water and dirt/debris, if there is water/debris then you need to clean your tank.Check you fuel line condition after a while they will degrade and need replacment.
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of chainsaws.When you remove your fuel lines from the carburetor be sure to make a drawing to how the lines are connected to the carburetor.Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank.The smaller of the two lines is the return to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.Make sure you are using fresh fuel…and oil mix if your using a two cycle mower or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture and not too much oil as it can cause hard starting.If the chainsaw is over a couple of years old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.The diaphgram may look good and flexible, but it can be deceiving and not act as a fuel pump as it should because it has become too hard and will cause hard starting,start and run and shut off, etc.
When you clean your carburetor, I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.Be sure to use COMPRESSED AIR to blow out all the fuel and air passages.The higher air pressure is needed to blow some of the trash/debris from the fuel or air passages.Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.Keep in mind that the float (if you have one) for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit, or you could also ask the parts man that you get your kit from.When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their original position before you started.Note:The little spring inside of the carburetor goes under the float arm.That is where your fuel inlet needle/float valve is located…on the arm at the end.Normally there is a small indetion in the carburetor base and a small protrusion on the underneath of the float arm where the spring will be in the right postion for installation.The spring will set in the indention and you will install the float arm with the needle/float valve and float rod into position over top of the spring,you will push down until it is in position and then you can tighten the screw that holds the float arm assembly in position.Once you have your carburetor cleaned/rebuilt that should solve your problem.Please take time to rate me

Cannot get the recoil spring on model 18r back in housing!
ANSWER : If it goes into a metal housing that is like a can lid with short sides and has one area that is open onthe side and the whole thing has a small hole in the center of the flat side….Take the metal housing, lay it flat on a table or other flat surface. Figure which way the spring would go. Lay the small end of the spring in the housing with the spring wire going out the open slot. Now all you do is wind the spring in by turning the housing. You must keep the spring in the housing with your other hand, maybe a flat piece of wood or something to hold the spring from jumping out. Once you have it all in the housing, reinstall it. If the spring is backward, CAREFULLY pull the spring out until it is no longer under tension, flop the spring over and go again…Good luck…Lee

How do i rewind the recoil spring on my craftsman lawn mower?
ANSWER : Normally these small engines use a clock spring to retract the rope.
Remove the cover on the top and you should find the spring either broken or the tab where the spring end has broken off or jumped out of the mount.
You will need to pre-load the spring with enough tension to retract the rope.
Remove the pull handle from the rope, load the spring and then wrap the rope around the pully holding the pully and spring in the loaded position. place the end of the rope through the hole and tie up the handle. The rope should pull and retract without being installed on the engine.

Trigger don’t release
ANSWER : I have a hose and gun that fits the McCulloch FHH18A that I no longer need as I had to buy a complete universal hose/gun and wand unit since I had broke the wand and the replacement wand was no longer available. Chainsaw starter rope won’t pull
ANSWER : Pull your spark plug to ensure it isn’t a compression issue or even piston/rod damage. If it still doesn’t move, pull off your starter assembly and try to rotate the fly wheel by hand. If it turns, then your issue is in your recoil spring kit. You can replace the unit, or try to disassemble and reassemble.

I have a poulon pro 180 chainsaw. it starts but will not stay running especially when i pull the trigger all the way.

Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this:Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting a bright blue spark at the spark plug.You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and pulling the crank rope, if you are getting a nice blue spark then:
