How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it.
On most mowers you just need to put a jumper wire (short circuit) across the seat switch terminals. You can disconnect the switch and just connect the two wires together.
Lawn Mower Ignition Problems

Remove the spark plug; clean the contact or replace the plug. Purchase new spark plugs from Briggs & Stratton`s online parts store or your area Snapper lawn mower dealer. Is the spark plug lead bad? Test the lead with a spark tester, and then test the lawn mower engine.

Best for all-sized lawns, the Snapper rear engine rider features a straight-forward design that offers easy-to-reach controls and a convenient 5-speed shift-on-the-go disc drive system. Plus, with vertical stand-on-edge capability, the mower is simple to maintain and takes up less room in storage.
Worn or broken blade drive belt – If the riding mower blades are not spinning, the blade drive belt may be worn or broken and unable to engage the blades. If the belt is intact, inspect it to see if it`s loose or slipping on the pulleys then replace it with a new one if necessary.
If the PTO clutch is not getting power, if the clutch solenoid is defective, or if the clutch is worn out, the lawn mower blades will not engage. The PTO clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is defective, you must replace it.
What are safety switches? Safety switches are used to open and close a circuit as a disconnecting means for service entrance or to facilitate lock-out/tag-out procedures for motors and other critical power systems equipment.
The engine powers both the wheels and the blade, just like a walk-behind self-propelled mower. But instead of being directly connected to it by an axle, the blade on most riding mowers is powered by a belt connected to the engine.

My snapper mower only has two forward gears and no reverse. the clutch is worn. Could replacing the clutch fix the problem or is there something else going on with the transmission?
ANSWER : Typically if your clutch is worn, you would experience some slippage in all gears. If your forward gears work, but reverse does not, you should be looking at a potentially more serious problem.

Installing a engine on a snapper rear engine mower
ANSWER : It is not difficult. The boggest thing is getting the linkages, fuel lines if there was an external tank, wiring and belt rounting the same as it was before you remvoed the old engine. Usually there are only 4 engine mounting bolts and the the engine comes free. Once you have the 4 bolts out you can losen the belt / drive assy and lift the belt free. You will have to transfer any engine output pulleys or drive connections to the new engine. Just note the distance on onthe output shaft from the old engine to the new one.

The biggest problem most people have is they forget to service the new engine with oil then pull the engine through to fill the oil filter (on larger engines) to pre-oil the engine. What happens is the oil level initally drops and the oil level sensor kills the spark.

It really is more simple than most people would think. It is all a matter of the time it takes to align the engine, control linkages, belts or engine outputs.
