How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
There are 4 safety interlock switches on our lawn and garden tractors. The locations vary slightly between Step-Thru® and box frame tractors. See Step Thru Riding Mower for help identifying a Step-Thru® frame tractor.
Three switches safeguard modern lawn tractors against overrunning and operation without an operator.
The first switch is located under the control level and is used to allow the mower blades to rotate. Lifting and lowering this switch are required to start the motor. The second switch, located beneath the brake pedal, is activated as soon as the brake pedal is activated and shuts off the engine.
Types of safety switch
Depending on the protection they provide there are three types of safety switches available.
A safety switch is a device that quickly switches off the electricity supply if an electrical fault is detected, to minimise the risk of electricity-related fires, electric shock, injury and death.
Modern lawn mowers are equipped with certain safety devices which should not be removed or tampered with. One safety feature is a blade that stops turning when the operator`s hands are removed from the controls. Another is a rear-mounted rope pull for starting the mower.
If your switchboard does not have a “Test” button on every single circuit, then your home is not fully protected. “If you hit the “Test” button and it doesn`t immediately trip the power, your safety switch is faulty and you should urgently call a Master Electrician to have it replaced.
How do I know if my safety switch has tripped? Your safety switch or RCD (residual current device) is likely located in your fuse box or switchboard. If the switch is on `OFF`, this means it has tripped.
The lawn mower key is an important safety device on a battery-powered lawn mower. The motor and blades of the lawn mower can only be started when the safety key is inserted and rotated to the “On” position. Only insert the safety key when you intend to start the machine and turn the blades.
Safety switches protect you from electric shock. They turn off the electricity within milliseconds when a current leak is detected. This can happen if a faulty power point, wiring or electrical appliance is being used. Circuit breakers and fuses on the other hand protect the circuitry.
When a mower is working correctly, releasing the bail lever turns off the mower. If your mower doesn`t have a bail lever, then the throttle lever doubles as the on-off control.
When working correctly, this safety switch keeps the engine from starting if your foot isn`t pressing down on the brake or if the parking brake isn`t set. If the switch breaks, it won`t let current reach the starter solenoid coil even though the brake is on, and the engine won`t start.
