My Ryobi SS30 Trimmer starts just fine. It idles somewhat rough and runs flakey at full, or partial, throttle. So I purchased a pacman carb adjustment tool and adjusted the carb. This seems to have temporarily fixed the problem. In fact, the trimmer worked quite well for about 3 weeks after I adjusted the carb.
Now the problems are beginning to recur. I now carry the pacman tool around with me while I am using the trimmer. If I adjust the high and low speed adjustment screws just right, the trimmer works great for about 10 minutes and then starts to behave erratically again. It eithe

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the string trimmer for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
The air filter may be clogged. If the air filter is clogged, the engine will get too much fuel and not enough air. As a result, the engine may not start. If the air filter is clogged, replace it.
Ryobi SS30 engines do best with mid-grade or premium unleaded gasoline that has a minimum octane rating of 87. Mix 2.6 ounces of high quality 2-cycle engine oil with 1 gallon of gas in a clean container approved for gasoline before using the mix to fill the engine.
If your trimmer engine idles, but stalls on throttle, check the following parts: the gasket, primer bulb, fuel filter, air filter, fuel vent, fuel line, and carburetor. The repair and symptom guide will help you better identify the part needed to be replaced and how.
The most likely culprit is a dirty or clogged air filter. Issues with your fuel pump or fuel filter can also cause your engine to idle then die with any throttle. If you have an older car, it could also be a bad carburetor.

Ryobi SS30 Problem, please help
ANSWER : Hello:
Are you Sire you Used the Correct Fuel Mix Ratio?
Remove the Muffler and Look Into the Exhaust Port.
Is the Piston Scratched and Gouged or is it Smooth like Glass?
If Smooth like Glass, then Check the Carburetor for Trash.
If Scratched and Gouged, then the Wrong Mixture was Used and the Engine is Trashed and will Require a New Piston and Jug (Cylinder) Assembly (a new unit will be cheaper than the parts to repair this unit) for the Unit to Run again.
Hope this Helps.
Good Luck

My ryobi bc30 starts but will not stay running. I only see one screw for the carb but it dont seem like it adjusts anything. I have turned the screw all the way in and out doesnt fix anything. i do not have an air filter in it. could that be the problem? I am also using a gas mix that is the same for my chainsaw. could that be the problem? getting very irritated with it and ready to just toss it in the trash.
ANSWER : Hi there,
The problem is that the diaphame in the carb. is worn-out and you need to replace that.It is very important that you run your machine with a air filter as the small particals can damage the diaphrame. Also remember that the older machines run on a mix of 30 to 1 and the new machines run on a 25 to 1 mix.
Trust that this will solve your problem

Ryobi 18v One+ battery won’t hold a charge. I have two of them and neither one will hold the charge. The charger is the Ryobi 18v charger plus. I have the same problem. As soon as I put the battery in the charger (even if it is dead) the “charging”, and the “fully charged” lights both come on. Even if I leave it for a day the battery will not charge.
ANSWER : If it’s both of them then i am thinking you have a faulty charger. i have seen mine do that, i got a new charger and it worked properly.
My ryobi 4 cycle leaf blower will not run over approximately 8/10 minutes and then will not restart for possibly a day or so.what can be done”
ANSWER : You have 1 of 2 possible problems. First is the ignition module is getting hot and killing the machine. It runs while cold but once it warms up it dies then it should restart after it cools back down. The other issue could be the needle in the carburetor is allowing more gas through than the machine can burn so it dies due to flooding. Letting it sit for a day or so allows the fuel to dissipate and allows the unit to restart

ANSWER : You can adjust the ‘H’ – high speed needle by removing the plastic carburetor cover by removing the 4 torx screws. On the carburetor, there may be a ‘L’ and ‘H’ needle. (Ryobi used two different carburetors on this model and one may not have a ‘L’ and one may not be adjustable with common tools). If the ‘H’ needle is adjustable, start the machine, warm it up and go to WOT (wide open throttle). At WOT, turn the screw about 1/4 turn out or in and see if the engine speeds up. If it does, fine the point in which the machine gets the highest RPM’s and then back it off about 1/8 turn. Note: This is a sign of a carburetor that needs to be cleaned and rebuilt with a new fuel metering diaphragms which would be common if the machine is > 4 years old and you did not completely run the machine dry of fuel in the fall. Rebuild kits available for about $15 through local sources or $10 through ebay.

then remove the muffler and try to start it holding the throttle wide open… if it starts and runs fair suspect a flooded engine, plugged muffler
if not, suspect a carb adjustment issue and then a carb
