How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Replacing the fuel hose on your vehicle is going to take time and patience, and it could require getting underneath the car. It`s also going to take the right tools for the job.
The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb. The return line (blue) comes from the long post on the back of the primer bulb and goes into the bottom of the fuel tank.
It`s hard to deny that rubber hose is still a popular choice for many homebuilt fuel systems. It is relatively inexpensive and very easy to install. Compared to other options such as rigid aluminum tubing, it has one major shortcoming: It has limited life and cannot be considered a permanent part of the airframe.
Most cars come from the factory with Metal Lines because they hold up better than any soft material. They are usually made from stainless, aluminum or coated steel tube. Metal is the best material for fuel lines.
Use a 7/16 inch and 9/16 inch wrench to tighten the quick connect fuel adapter to the fuel line SAE swivel fitting between 1/4 – 1/3 turn past finger tight (Figure 3). Overtightening can damage the fitting.
In terms of safety, plastic has a larger space between chemicals than rubber, so when a gas with small molecules such as liquefied petroleum gas is transported in a plastic hose, the gas molecules may penetrate through the hose. Such a leak is dangerous, and so plastic hoses may not be used for fuel gas.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hoses are widely used in the automotive industry due to their unique properties such as high pressure and temperature resistance, chemical inertness, and low friction. These hoses are used for various applications including fuel lines, brake lines, vacuum lines, and coolant hoses.
Braided lines are stiffer than rubber lines and are more durable. Add the proper hose ends to the tubing if you buy a roll of it. You could also purchase braided hose to fit specific applications. Braided hose provides better heat dissipation and better flow, which is important when choosing performance car parts.
Durability: Metal fuel lines are generally more durable than rubber or braided fuel lines, as they are resistant to wear and tear and are not prone to cracking or deterioration. Rubber fuel lines can become hard and brittle over time, while braided fuel lines can be prone to leaks if the braid becomes damaged.
Light: 0.065- to 0.080-inch line is best for trimming grass around the house and whacking down common lawn weeds from around driveways, walkways and fences. Medium: 0.080 to 0.110-inch line is best for homes with larger lawns, or gardens overgrown with weeds that have tough, heavy stems. Heavy: 0.110-inch and above.
Twisted Line

Twisted lines are the most durable lines in the market. With cleaner cuts and increased resistance to wear and tear, this line shape will solve most of your trimming troubles. I`ve even heard of them lasting twice as long as average round lines!

String trimmer line comes in a variety of shapes: round, twisted, square, star shaped, and serrated. Rounded line is the most common type available, but it because it lacks a cutting edge, it rips the grass rather than cutting it. Twisted line is a bit better, as the shape has a little more of a cutting edge to it.
If you press the groomer too hard against your scalp or skin, you may accidentally change the settings to high or low or apply uneven pressure. This can result in uneven clipping. For the best trimming experience, make sure your groomer is in full contact with your skin and move it gently and steadily.
Most vehicles have rubber fuel hoses connecting the fuel pipes on the chassis to the fuel pump or carburetor on the engine. Rubber hoses are flexible and can be cut to length as required, but they have a tendency to perish over time and can rub through if not properly secured.
Fuel line diameter matters A LOT! A larger diameter is generally better, but the correct diameter is the best choice. If the diameter is too small: you won`t be able to support your horsepower goal. If the diameter is too big: the lines will take longer to pressurize.
Permatex Thread Sealant with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is an economical general-purpose fitting sealant that seals and resists pressure in air, oil, diesel fuel and hydraulic systems, outperforming tapes and pipe dopes.
Dirt, sediment, and carbon buildup are all common things that can clog these fuel system parts. Dirt and sediment can also clog your fuel lines and prevent gas flow into the engine.
Description. To fit various strimmers / chainsaws / lawnmowers / hedge trimmers. ID: 3.0mm. OD: 5.0mm.
One is the high pressure line, which sends fuel to the injectors. The other is the return line, which dumps fuel that the injectors don`t use back into the tank.
The return line should direct fuel close to the bottom of the tank and away from the pickup.
Use Insulated Clamps to secure fuel lines every few feet. Clamps should be tight on the fuel line to avoid abrasion and fuel line droop. Keep lines away from moving parts like driveshafts, CV axles, wheels and steering components. Keep lines away from heat sources, ignoring this can cause Vapor Lock or fire.

Need to replace fuel lines on my Troy Bilt gas hedge trimmer. Where can I get replacement fuel lines… or better yet… what size are the lines and where can I buy a few feet of the lines. Note: I have reviewed the parts assembly and it would seem to indicate I have to replace the entire handle assembly (Part #1) instead of just buying replacement hose(s). Any help to resolve my issue would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance
ANSWER : Replacement fuel lines should be readily available at your local lawnmower repair shop. Your TroyBilt hedger uses fuel line that is 3/32″ (2.4mm) interior dimension, 3/16″ (4.8mm) outside dimension, with a 3/64″ (1.2mm) wall dimension.
Most manufacturers don’t offer replacement line, only fuel tank assemblies. Find your local shop, and try to get the TYGON brand…it is yellow. Tygon lasts the longest. You should be able to buy it by the foot for less than $2 per foot. You will need 2 feet of hose to replace both lines.

Make sure to clean the in-tank filter when replacing hoses.

Good luck.

How do the fuel lines in a weedeater trimmer pe550 hook up inside the gas tank
ANSWER : I have an older model that has a weighted filter in the tank. The filter flops around and can ‘fall’ into the fuel no matter which way you tilt the trimmer/tank. You should have one in your tank. Feed in the new line and make the end come out the gas cap. Push the filter/weight into the end of the fuel line. Pull the extra fuel line out of the tank to match the original position. You should have cut the new line to approximately the proper or same length as the old fuel line with an angle cut so you could push it into the tank.

Broken pull cord
ANSWER : You have to take four allen screw out of the plastic that holds the engine on. There is also one by the spark plug that needs to come out. Once the engine is loose, you have to unplug one wire and unscrew the other. Then the engine should come off. Then loosen the two allen screws holding the pulley in and it will come out.

I need to replace to fuel lines on a Craftman 32cc trimmer. The old ones cracked apart. 2 of the lines look like 1/8″ OD one line looks like 3/32″ OD. Larger line looks like it hooks to filter, Smaller line to a fitting in the gas tank. I am assuming the smaller line ges to the primer inlet. My question is the lines penetrate the bottom of the gas tank. How do they seal. How do I install the filter and the fitting. I am assuming to thread the new lines in from the bottom of the tank and pull through the gas cap hole. Then I attach filter or fitting and pull back through. So do I pull the line so as to create a seal from the swell caused by the fitting/filter?
ANSWER : Depending on the brand of line you use, Tygon line is self sealing but seems to shrink faster then factory supplied because of the ethanol in the gas. The stone gas filter is designed to fall to the lowest part of the tank, not stop the line from falling out.
