How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
In most lawnmowers, the fuel filter is located inside the fuel tank or the fuel line. Some lawnmower engines have internal, non-replaceable filters. If you are not sure where your fuel filter is located, you can refer to your lawn mower`s manual.
The fuel filter prevents dust particles and fuel contaminants from entering the engine which could damage the cylinders, pistons and other components that will result in the need of costly repairs. Replacing these filters with a genuine Toro fuel filter prevents problems and ensures longer engine life.
A mower engine will run without an air filter, however prolonged use without the air filter risks damaging the piston and cylinder.
A lawn mower`s air filter is usually located near the top of the engine and is encased within a metal or plastic shroud that is usually secured by a screw or with snap fittings.
A fuel filter is designed to properly strain the gas before it reaches the carburetor in your lawn mower, snow blower or equipment. Fuel filter replacement is important because: It prevents foreign particles from clogging your engine.
If the filter gets clogged, you will likely encounter issues with your lawnmower. This can be something as simple as an annoying sputter when you try to start the mower, difficulty getting it started, or it can cause the mower to idle unevenly.
Your vehicle has two fuel filters. The first filter mounts on top of the engine on the left-hand side. The second filter is inside the diesel fuel conditioner module.
If you learn the steps of fuel filter replacement, you can do this fast, economical DIY job next time your vehicle needs a new fuel filter. Although details vary from one vehicle to another, the basic procedure is the same as I have described here. Cost for parts = $15 to $125.
In general, the fuel filter is difficult to open, but it can still be cleaned to remove various dirt that has settled. If the dirt accumulated is too bad, you should replace a new air filter because the dirt that has settled for too long will be tough to clean and usually takes a long time.
The type of air filter your lawn mower has completely depends on your mower and the size of its engine. Small, walk-behind mowers often just have a thin paper filter that you need to check monthly at the minimum. Some walk-behinds actually have a small foam filter.
Unless you`re an inveterate tinkerer, though, you likely take your mower for an annual checkup to make sure everything is aligned and adjusted correctly. There are two filters in your mower that enable all those other parts to do their jobs.
The proper fuel filter for your engine depends on the engine`s design. Check your engine Illustrated Parts List or consult your local Briggs & Stratton dealer for the correct replacement filter.
Stalling – A vehicle with a dirty or blocked fuel filter is one of the main reasons in what causes an engine to stall while driving. A blocked fuel filter prevents fuel from traveling through the fuel lines to the engine, starving your engine of fuel. If your engine is not getting fuel, it simply will not run.
Some clear indications your fuel filter needs to be changed include a decrease in fuel efficiency, a check engine light on, and/or sputtering while accelerating.
The most common sign of a clogged fuel filter is trouble starting the car, since it depletes the oil supply going to the engine. Although a dirty fuel filter leads to ignition difficulty, a fully-clogged filter will fail completely, and the engine won`t start at all.

Toro model number 200065 won’t start. New gas, new spark plug, cleaned air filter. Doesn’t feel like fuel is in the primer bulb when I prime it.
ANSWER : Some toro primer bulbs don’t fill up with fuel but blow air into a chamber in the carb that has fuel in it so when you press the bulb, the air sprays fuel into the carb ( just a little) So since it won’t start, the bulb probably has a very small crack in it. replace it and then try it.

Toro recycler will start until primed gas is consumed.
ANSWER : I had similar problem and cleaned the spark plug and that seemed to have worked, but I think that may be a temporary fix because the engine still seems to be running unevenly. I feel that it must be a larger problem with the carb. If anyone can help this novice to adjust the carb or clean both carb and filter, or offer other solutions I would appreciate your assistance.

Replace the cable traction (part #105-1844)
ANSWER : I just replaced mine and it was a little difficult and took me roughly an hour to do. First, download the walk behind power mover drive systems at https://homeownersolutions.toro.com/portal/server.pt?space=CommunityPage&cached=true&parentname=CommunityPage&parentid=1&in_hi_userid=30166&control=SetCommunity&CommunityID=225&PageID=30031#manualsResultPageWhile they do not specifically address replacing the cable, you can find out how they do it when replacing the drive belt. As I said, it took me about an hour and I just about had to remove the transmission and rear drive assembly in order to unhook the original cable. Good luck!

6.5 toro walk behind self propell b&s engine. self propel does not work
ANSWER : Try adjusting your self propel cable. A slight extension of the cable (1/4 inch) will double speed, so do a little at a time. Take the back guard off and clean debris 2 or 3 screws and it is just a cover so nothing will pop out unless that is your real problem. You should have grease fittings behind rear wheels so squirt 2 times with grease gun in each wheel and 1 squirt every 3rd mow.
