To check this, hold the magnet in one hand and the blades in the other hand and try to turn them in the opposite direction. Most impellers will turn slightly and then lock. If the blade keeps spinning on the magnet without ever locking, then your impeller is broken and needs to be replaced.
Pond pump impeller typically spins and helps move and draw water into it. Without a fully functional impeller, the water movement will stop, cutting off a huge amount of oxygen supply that would lead to the loss of aquatic plants and animals.
There are many methods for repairing the impeller of the water pump. There are many methods for repairing the impeller cavitation, such as ARC polymer composite material coating, powder spraying (welding), epoxy resin coating, and rubber and nylon composite material repair, etc.
Inspect for signs of leakage around the pump housing – if you see leakage there, it`s time for replacement. Many boating experts recommend replacing the impeller once a year no matter what, as a notable amount of wear can still occur, but not be enough to cause the telltale leak.
Depending on the size, manufacture, and age of the device, replacement of a water pump impeller can cost anywhere between $310 and $730. However, these costs can vary substantially. At the dealership or for specific automobile types, be prepared to pay more.
At a minimum, you should replace your impeller according to your manual – for example, every 200 hours. Over time, the vanes become rigid and work less effectively, and you may see your engine overheating.
If your impeller fails, the pump can`t pump cool water to the engine causing your engine to overheat. If you catch that your impeller is failing early on, you might avoid major problems. However, if you`re not fortunate enough to catch a bad impeller, the results can be catastrophic to your engine.
It only takes a very short time for them to disintegrate running dry. Typically when they`re replaced or the pump housing is opened for inspection, they should be lubricated to give them a chance to suck in the water initially without abrading against the sides of the pump.
The speed and diameter of the impeller determines the head or pressure that the pump can generate. The rotational speed and height of the impeller blades determines the flow that the pump can accommodate [4, 5]. The design of the impeller diameter is critical because it affect the performance of the centrifugal pump.
Rattling and grinding – impeller damage is usually signaled by an obvious grinding sound. Whether caused by debris or a broken assembly, the sound varies from grinding to loud rattling. Screaming, screeching – when pump bearings go bad the sound of metal on metal make a terrible noise.
A closed impeller is the most efficient form and is ideal for handling clean liquids with low viscosity. Consisting of two plates (known as shrouds) either side of the impeller vanes and a boss, extending from the front shroud into the pump suction to guide the liquid into the impeller eye.
For higher pump speeds, an impeller made of cast iron is recommended for the following reasons; a. The cast iron impeller required the least power to pump and had the next best efficiency rating (46.35%) to the zinc impeller, better than the bronze impeller (38.79%).
If the impeller is not spinning at all, make sure the unit is turned off and try manually spinning it with a tool, such as a screwdriver or a pen. If you are unable to manually spin the impeller, the part will need to be replaced. A pump impeller may cease to spin after not being in use for a period of time.
If your boat overheats it could be a sign that your raw water pump isn`t working. One of the first things you should check is the impeller inside the pump. If the impeller is cracked, melted or the vanes have lost their flexibility then it`s time to replace it.
Tests prove that Globe`s Run-Dry® impellers outperform standard neoprene or rubber impellers and are guaranteed to run-dry for up to 15 minutes.
The curling of the impeller blades will reduce the amount of water that is pumped. If the water pump impeller is not pumping enough water, the motor will overheat.

There`s a simple mathematical way figure this out, called the Z/T ratio, where Z is the liquid level in inches, and T is the tank diameter, also in inches. If Z/T is greater than 1.2, it`s likely two impellers will be required. Tall, narrow tanks are most susceptible to the need for two impellers.
Use a tape measure and hold the end of it against the tip of 1 of the impeller`s blades. Stretch the tape measure all the way across the center of the impeller and line it up with the very end of the tip of the blade directly across from the first blade to find the diameter of the impeller.
Impeller Damage

As is the case for the housing of your pump, the impeller is susceptible to damage done by excessive heat during use. Dry running your pump causes friction, and this friction is strong enough to heat up the impeller, causing it to melt.

Johnson Pump glycerin grease impeller lubricant optimizes your pump`s priming ability and helps to protect the impeller from damage at first start, or after seasonal storage.

Want to replace the seal on a water way SD-10-2N11CC
ANSWER : Open up the pump volute/housing body, unthread the impeller from the motor shaft. then remove the seal & replace it. NOTE*** ensure that the round doughnut part, dark color, of the seal half (with the spring looking thing) touches the white part of the other half. Most people when changing the seal, believe that the rubber parts of both halves need to touch. that is WRONG. Reinstall and assemble everything back in reverse.

My mower blades disengage when operating.
ANSWER : Not sure of your question, but if you mean, they start when you flip the switch and then disengage but the switch stays up.. you need to check two things. (1) The out put of your alternator, read the battery with a volt meter before you start it, then start up the engine and read the voltage again should be a higher reading with the engine running. 12.4 vdc with the engine off – 13.7 vdc with it running. (just an example). Next will be your seat switch. There is a switch under the seat if you are not sitting in the seat the blades should turn off. so the switch could be out of its socket, or broken.

Broken pullcord the pull cord on my cub cadet push mowersnaped and broken and we put it back in and know it wont wind back in
ANSWER : Yeah I got the same problem. My pull cord broke in the first season. On my own once the plastic cover is removed, 4 phillips screws, the cord housing is secured by 3 10mm nuts. Remove them and lift out the housing. On my own unit the spring had also slipped out of the mount on the shaft securing the assembly (another 10mm socket nut will loosen that) and I had to resecure that first, then wind it up before making the knot.. I used a Briggs and Stratton cord from another (truly dead) mower and have had no problems since then.
