The alternator provides voltage to the lawn mower while the engine is running and also recharges the battery.
Once the engine is running it drives a small alternator whose rectified output is a low power capacity pulsating DC voltage capable of recharging the battery. To prevent overcharging of the battery, a voltage regulator module is introduced between the alternator output and the input to the battery.
It is possible to replace only the voltage regulator on some vehicles – usually by disassembling the alternator to gain access – but because the other alternator components can wear out over time also, the alternator is commonly replaced.
To check the regulator, connect the meter leads to the bike`s battery as it`s running. The reading should not be higher than 14.5 volts or lower than 13.5 volts. If the reading is higher, this means the battery is overcharged and you may need to replace the regulator rectifier.
All of the batteries on our riding mowers operate at a nominal 12 volts. It is recommended to fully charge the battery before the first use as well as anytime the battery is not used for longer than 30 days. During down time a battery can lose power.
The 60-Volt Max battery system from Cub Cadet® is designed to conveniently power a suite of electric machines.
Riding lawn mowers are powered by an engine, and every engine has alternators to help it in moving the lawn mower. The alternator`s job is to maintain the lawn mower battery at a constant level.
For the easiest alternator test, simply turn on the headlights to your lawn mower or outdoor power equipment. Then, turn off the engine. If the lights dim, the alternator works. If not, it doesn`t.
Alternators power the small engine while it is running, keeping the battery charged by circulating power back through the system. For the easiest method to check your alternator, simply turn on the headlights to your lawn mower or outdoor power equipment.

I have a cub cadet 2165 I just put in a new battery and it is slow turning over any ideas?
ANSWER : If battery is good and everything is hooked up right. Most likely could be the pto clutch bearing. Not the bearing on the pulley but on the clutch inside. Had the same problem, took the spark plugs out got it free. Turned over easy with plugs out, Started right up after and then burned up my bearing. Don’t burn up bearing. If do field assy. For that is 200$ if you can get away with just that. Otherwise 350-400$ for full assy.

I have a cub cadet LT1042 and it is 3 years old…we have replaced the pto 2 times and replaced the belt 7 times what is the deal
ANSWER : You have to have something rubbing under there that isn’t supposed to be, crawl under the tractor and watch the belt go around by hand, if you can turn it. Maybe see what is frozen up, in the wrong place, Gotta be a belt guide is rubbing or a pulley is not spinning. The PTO should last 20 years, all i can think is they got it too tight to start, .010″ min, that is tight, and you must be in Florida picking up a lot of sand? If it was under any kind of warranty, I would raise a big stink about it. Those PTO’s are not cheap. And the belt has got to be $20. I wouldn’t go to a dealer for the belt, unless it is really special, just match it up at the auto parts store, for half the price of dealer. Hope this helps.
