Sounds like roll pin has broken that is on it. Look for a hole where pin slides through shaft. Use a hammer and punch to push out broken piece out. Make sure outer hole matches up with inner hole.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

A broken shear pin is the most common reason the snowblower auger won`t turn properly so replace any broken shear pins. Worn or loose belts also prevent the snowblower auger from spinning. Check and adjust the belts and replace any broken or worn belts when you see the snowblower auger not turning.
For most two stage snow blowers, there are 2 or 3 belts under the cover. One belt will drive the auger, and the other will drive the wheels.
Examine the Belts

One or more of the belts slipping off the pulleys can be the cause of a snowblower not throwing snow. If they can be put back around the pulleys snugly, that might be all it needs. But if the belts are stretched or broken, they absolutely need to be replaced.

Two-stage snow throwers have serrated steel augers that break up snow and ice and feed the snow into a high speed impeller (stage-one). The impeller then throws the snow up and out of the discharge chute (stage-two). If you`ll be tackling heavier wet snow, then a two-stage thrower is a safe bet.
There are two belts you need to be familiar with when talking about car maintenance — the serpentine belt and the timing belt.
The easiest way to tell a 2-cycle engine from a 4-cycle engine is the number of fuel tank and/or oil sump fill ports. A 2-cycle engine has one fill port with a cap that has fuel pump and oil can icon. The cap will usually state the oil to fuel mix ratio.
A common issue is a clogged carburetor from stale gas. Using a fuel stabilizer keeps fuel fresh and the carburetor from gumming and varnishing. Third step, check the ignition system with a spark tester. Step four, replace the spark plug and reconnect the spark plug wire.
If a belt is too tight in a system, it can add stress to your bearings. The added stress to bearings can result into over amperage of your motor and potential motor failure.
Too little tension results in slippage, excess heat, and premature belt & pulley wear. Too much tension results in excessive stress on belts, bearings, and shafts. However, there is still a wide range of tension which a belt will operate satisfactorily.
When pulleys are not aligned properly, additional loads are induced. The aim of belt alignment is to align the grooves of the drive and driven pulleys so that the belts run with minimal wear. Proper alignment extends the service life of belts and bearings, reduces vibration and noise levels, and saves energy.
In this case, the driver A pulls the belt from one side (i.e. lower side RQ) and delivers it to the other side (i.e. upper side LM). Thus the tension in the lower side belt will be more than that in the upper side belt.
The best way to correct offset misalignment is by moving the pulley axially on its shaft, or by moving the adjustable machine (usually the motor) axially. Horizontal angle is corrected by moving the adjustable machine laterally to change its angle with respect to the opposing pulleys.
Myth: WD-40 Multi-Use Product is not really a lubricant. Fact: While the “W-D” in WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, WD-40 Multi-Use Product is a unique, special blend of lubricants. The product`s formulation also contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal.
The Best Oil for Snowblower Engines—Summary

Our pick of the best oil for a snowblower is Mobil 1`s high mileage 5W-30 (US$27.47, Amazon) 4-cycle weight version which offers more than just regular car oil and works well on small engines.

Set idle speed adjusting screw, clockwise to increase rpm, counter-clockwise to decrease rpm. Idle rpm range should be 950 to 1050 rpms. Adjust idle mixture by turning idle mixture screw slowly clockwise until the engine runs poorly.
Turn the idle screw to adjust the idle—turn the screw to the left to increase the RPM or to the right to lower it. When you have adjusted the idle—aim for 650 RPM—reconnect the idle air adjustment valve`s electrical connection. Lower the hood and turn your car off.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the snowblower for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
When your snowblower engine only runs for a few seconds and then dies, the problem is often caused by a gummed-up carburetor. The carburetor mixes air with fuel in the proper proportion to produce a combustible gas.
With a 2-stage furnace, also known as a modulating furnace, `2-stage` refers to the furnace`s indoor blower motor. It simply means that the blower motor operates at different speeds to more accurately control the flow of heated air to your home.
Two-stage snow blowers are great for handling all types of snow on any surface. For example, a two-stage may be an ideal choice for those with gravel driveways, since they don`t clean all the way to the ground which helps avoid pieces of gravel getting into your snow blower`s auger.
A Two-Point Seat Belt has 2 mounting positions, one on each side of the seat belt. These lap seat belts will fit numerous applications with little or no modifications to your vehicle. Two point lap seat belts are typically the minimum required seat belts in many cars and trucks manufactured before 1967.
If the belt was too slack, increase the tension by levering the pump outwards with a strong screwdriver or flat bar. Lever against the cast front end of the pump body, just behind the drive-belt pulley — not against any other part of the body or pipework, which are easily damaged.
Cables do stretch over time. Performing these adjustments will tighten any slack that may have occurred due to stretching. It may be necessary to inspect and possibly replace one or both belts. These belts operate the drive systems for the wheels and the auger.
Dual-stage blowers are much heavier and take up more storage space, but are more powerful and useful for tougher and bigger jobs. Single-stage blowers are smaller, lighter, and easier to maneuver, but are not powerful enough to tackle large snow removal jobs.

And once you adjust that and still have no difference it is time to replace your belt.but if this is your first adjustment you should be okay

ROUTING OF BELT – Mtd Drive Belt 42"
ANSWER : Diagram is on the mowing deckBest regardsCk

My MTD 10hp auger will not turn. I adjusted the auger cable by tightening the bolt on the handle. I disconnected the spark plug and checked the shear pins on both sides of the auger. They are both still there. The snow thrower worked fine when I last used it in
April of 2010. The snow thrower starts, and goes in all gears in forward and reverse. Is there a separate belt to turn the augers?
Thank you
ANSWER : Yes there are 2 belts one for the drive and one for the auger. If you remove the cover on top that is located between the engine and the auger housing you can check the belts. The auger belt has come off the pulley or is broken. Hope this helps you out. Best regards and good luck.
