How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If your switch won`t turn on, this could be a sign your tank pressure is above your switch`s cut-in pressure. Try running some water elsewhere in the building to reduce pressure below the cut-in level. You can also try gently tapping on the pressure gauge, the switch, and the tank.
Improper inlet conditions are one of the most common reason pumps fail to produce their expect pressure. Inlet issues may also cause ongoing reliability problems. One culprit is air entrainment or lack of prime. It is important to make sure that system is designed so that liquid floods the pump to prime it.
Pressure gauge failure can be attributed to one or more of these eight reasons: mechanical vibration, pulsation, extreme temperature, pressure spikes, overpressure, corrosion, clogging, and mishandling/abuse.
Some of the possible issues include: A blocked sediment filter or a failing filtration system. Low water table caused or overusing your water supply. Power surges that result in damaged capacitors.
If your water pump has stopped pumping out water entirely while making this buzzing sound, there`s no cause for panic. The humming sound means the pump is working but there`s no water to move, so your pump is running dry. If your pump has lost prime, or is running dry, this is due to a loss of water.
If your water well system is equipped with a low pressure cut-off switch, you will need to reset it if the water pressure drops below a desired point. The drop in pressure may occur if you attempt to use a greater volume of water than either the well or well pump can produce.
Root causes of this are generally undersized suction lines, plugged suction strainer or valve issues. Cavitation: when liquid pressure falls below vapour pressure, bubbles form and implode on impellers and interior surfaces, damaging pump internals, disrupting flow and leading to seal failure.
Look at the factory specifications for your pump and ensure that it is receiving the correct electrical power supply in order to work properly. Ensure that all electrical wiring is in good condition, that there are no loose connections and that the electrical current is reaching your pump in the first place.
Signs of a bad well pressure switch

If your well pressure switch has stopped working, you may notice some of the following symptoms: The pump does not turn off when the tank`s pressure exceeds the preset cut-off pressure. The pump does not turn on when the tank`s pressure drops below the preset cut-on pressure.

The single most common reason a pump controller fails is due to a build-up of `muck` in the internals of the controller. Typically, tank water collected off a roof catchment contains bacteria which with the addition of summer heat can develop bacterial growth.

Pressure switches rely on water pressure to do all the work. The change in pressure that activates the switch is provided via the water from the well. The pressure moves up through the diaphragm which presses against a piston and spring, which in turn opens or closes the contacts.

I have a 1/2 horse wayne shallow well pump. At times the water in the house slows to a trickel. This will happen for about 40-120 seconds then the pump seems to kick on and the pressure is restored. I have replaced the high low switch and the problem persists. Please let me know any thoughts on the problem. Thank You
ANSWER : Check air in your water tank should be less than you’re cut in pressure..

My intex sand filter will not move water when I put the lever to filter? It will move water when I put the lever to recirc but wont move water with filter…why?
ANSWER : Im gonna guess that you stored the filter improperly off season and now the sand charge is hard as cement inside not alowing water to get thru , left alone for a week or so it might loosen up , but the best thing is to dissasemble filter and remove all sand and ck “fingers” inside this is fastest way
i allways use RV antifreeze 30/1 to store any pumps or filters off season , RV type because its nontoxic

I have a pressure booster pump installed which turns on automatically when we open the tap and turns off by itself when we close the tap, but when power goes and comes back(common in india), the pump will turn on even with no tap opened and does not turn off automatically and goes on running, some kind of airlock problem I think, when we just shut off and on water input several times, it again starts working well
ANSWER : Check to see if the output pipe has water in it when the pump swutches off the pump needs to be primed at all time what we normally find cases like this is the pump is higher than the supply or there is an air pocket on the output where the pressure sensor is

Grundfos MQ3-35 hums loudly and does not pump. Alarm light does not go on. Pump seems “happy” but when a tap opens and the pump turns on, there is no boost in pressure and the pump just hums loudly… definitely a different noise from normal operation. Seized? Vapor lock? Any help is greatly appreciated.
ANSWER : Hi, seems like the capacitor gone bad or a seized motor. I just fixed mine cranking the motor manually with the use of a flat head screwdriver. In the back of the motor there is a rubber plug about the size of a dime. Take it off an insert a long flat-head screwdriver and crank the motor clockwise a few turns. Remove the screwdriver and try to operate the pump as usual. Good luck …
