Can’t pull starter rope

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Sometimes, when your starter rope will not retract into your leaf blower, it can be because it is jammed between the pulley and the housing, or it is wrapped around the hub. In this case, you will often be able to fix the symptom by simply opening the machine and untangling or removing the rope from where it is stuck.
Over time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot. If the spark arrestor is clogged, the engine may not start. To unclog the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush. You may also replace the spark arrestor.
First remove and reinsert the battery to ensure that it`s seated properly in the Blower. If this doesn`t work, check the battery charge level by pushing the battery indicator button. If the battery is low, stop and charge the battery before use.
The pull cord mechanism on a lawn mower isn`t complicated, and the reason your cord isn`t catching is that one of the components of the flywheel starter assembly has failed under the stress of regular use. Typically it`s either worn or broken pawls, or a damaged pulley system.
Start by unclipping and giving it a clean using plug-specific cleaner and a wire brush. Dirt build-up of old carbon and oil or a disconnection can stop the spark plug from igniting properly. If cleaning doesn`t help, the plug may be too old, worn or out of shape to function. Replace the plug with a fresh one.
Leftover fuel in your leaf blower is one of the primary reasons a leaf blower won`t start. Gas left in the tank for 30 days or more can deteriorate, causing the engine to stall or not start properly. If left for 6 months or more, the gasoline can turn into a thick sludge.

Ran last year, won’t start this year. Changed fuel and replaced spark plug. Checked spark and attempted to start with battery and tried with pull cord but no start. pulled plug and it had fuel on it so i cleaned it let it sit an hour and tried again, no start. any suggestions?
ANSWER : It might have tipped over on its side. Look at the air filter, if you see oil or gas on the filter then you might have to remove and clean the carburetor. I would start by cleaning/replacing the air filter and trying it again. If its getting fuel and the spark plug works then the only other side of the fire triangle is air.

ANSWER : Remove the plastic housing to gain access to the recoil. Pull the cord slowly all the way out, this will cause the spring to wind up.Clamp the recoil wheel so it will not return to its original position,be carefull the recoil has tension on it not remove the old pull rope and thread the new one in and thru the hole of the recoil tie knot.pull on the cord to take tension off and at the same time remove clamp. Slowly allow the recoil to wind the rope in and reinstall on unit.

I pull the cord but it will not start, i have a Ryobi Backpack Bl
ANSWER : Ok that’s half the battle. Probably the easiest thing to do is to clean the carb. So I would get some carb cleaner and using the little tube that comes with it spray into the high and low ports on the carb. Then spray in the outlet side of the carb.

Ps. Remove the little black and white caps and turn the screws on each while counting the number of turns to close (this way when you put the screws back in then all you have to do is count the turns to put them back at the factory settings). Now remove the screws and gently put the tube in each port and spray.

Also you may as well clean the filter with soap and water and let it dry. Once the filter dries take some fresh oil and drop a couple of drops on the filter and make sure it’s has a small amount of oil in it.

Let me know how things go! Good luck!
