Replacing a ripcord on your lawn mower is a quick and relatively straightforward job most homeowners can tackle. It takes less than an hour and you probably won`t spend more than $20 on parts if you have the basic tools you need to do the job.
POLYDAC PULL CORD
A durable and long-lasting engine starter cord made from industrial quality Dacron Polyester. Designed as a high-end replacement for your lawnmower, snowblower, generator, and any other household appliances or power tools that require a reliable pull rope.
The recoil starter is the pull-start mechanism on the back of the engine that enables you to start your snow blower or lawnmower. The starter cord is also called a starter rope.
Unfortunately, you also know the struggles that come with it. Your bathroom pull cord keeps breaking for 1 of 3 reasons. Either it`s had too much heavy-handed use, it was cheaply made, or you`ve got a loose wire somewhere.
Electric start (also known as key start or push button start) is a lawnmower feature found on petrol lawnmowers, which allows you to start the engine at the push of a button or the turn of a key instead of pulling a recoil starter rope.
Remove the old lawnmower pull cord from the handle, feed through the new cord and tie a simple knot. Make sure the knot is nice and tight. Pull it back through the handle to help tighten the knot.
The problem may be in the recoil starter itself. A tangled coil of rope or a broken spring may be the problem. In many cases the recoil starter is easily replaced as a single assembly. DO NOT attempt do take the starter apart.
Unbreakable and Reliable: diamondcord is the world`s strongest and most durable pull start cord, designed using patented technology that is five times stronger than steel.
Although there are similarities, there is one distinct difference that separates the two. Cord is lengths of fibers twisted together to create its shape, while rope is thick strings, fibers, or other cordage twisted or braided together to create its shape.
Most engines use a re-coil starter (sometimes called rewind starter). The pull-cord is attached to a pulley and spring in a case on top of the flywheel housing. The cord is attached inside and rewinds itself after each pull.

Broken pullcord the pull cord on my cub cadet push mowersnaped and broken and we put it back in and know it wont wind back in
Yeah I got the same problem. My pull cord broke in the first season. On my own once the plastic cover is removed, 4 phillips screws, the cord housing is secured by 3 10mm nuts. Remove them and lift out the housing. On my own unit the spring had also slipped out of the mount on the shaft securing the assembly (another 10mm socket nut will loosen that) and I had to resecure that first, then wind it up before making the knot.. I used a Briggs and Stratton cord from another (truly dead) mower and have had no problems since then.
Broken pull cord
You have to take four allen screw out of the plastic that holds the engine on. There is also one by the spark plug that needs to come out. Once the engine is loose, you have to unplug one wire and unscrew the other. Then the engine should come off. Then loosen the two allen screws holding the pulley in and it will come out.
Pull Cord Will Only Pull Out 3-4 Inches Then Sticks
Take it apart as you did before. Look for whatever it is binding. Did you rewind the rope so there is a good amount of tension? If you didn’t, then do that . Good luck, Lee
When i pull the rope it backlashes half way through the pull
