Over time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot. If the spark arrestor is clogged, the chainsaw may run stall or run rough. To unclog the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush. You can also replace the spark arrestor.
A Poulan Pro chain saw engine needs air as well as fuel in order to produce the proper combustion for firing. An air filter that is dirty has clogged passages which restrict the amount of air that can enter the carburetor. As a result, the fuel-and-air mixture may be too rich, resulting in starting difficulties.
If the chainsaw won`t start, or starts and then stops and you find the spark plug wet with fuel mixture, it means that the engine is flooded (you will probably smell petrol). It happens when too much fuel enters the combustion chamber, possibly because you have pressed the primer many times.
If your chainsaw still starts and then stops working, check the air filter. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty or damaged. Another reason that your chainsaw starts and then stops working could be that the spark arrestor is dirty or clogged. If this is the case, clean it with a wire brush.
If your saw idles fine, and then bogs down when pressing the throttle, then adjust your `H` screw by unscrewing. This will increase the amount of fuel to the carburetor under load. If your saw idles fine, then runs lumpy with a lot of smoke when pressing the throttle, then adjust your `H` screw by screwing in.
My chain saw starts and then dies what is wrong? This could be a number of things and is most likely fuel or storage related. Over a short period of time, fuel will become stale. If the unit is stored with stale gasoline, the system will become clogged or restricted.
Dirty Carburetor (air+fuel)

If fuel sits in the system for too long, the carburetor (and the engine and fuel lines) can become sticky and clog. Remove the air filter and spray the carburetor with carb cleaner—an aerosolized acetone spray made to remove the gunk.

If your electric or gas saw`s chain won`t turn around the bar, chances are that the chain brake is stuck. On some saws, resetting the chain brake is as simple as pushing in on the side cover of the saw`s body with one hand, and pushing the chain brake forward while grabbing the top handle with the other.

I start twice (when I pull starter rope) then the rope won’t go back
can I know what happen
ANSWER : Your starter/recoil unit has malfunctioned. Disassembly/inspection down to the point where you can get the recoil off will be required. Remove the engine cover screws. The recoil unit may be part of the cover or may be under it. You will easily be able to access it. Replacement parts for your mower are readily available.

plug and squirting some carb cleaner or starting fluid in the
cylinder. Pull the starter cord several times for the piston to drive
out the oil. Clean the plug and replace it. Try to start as normal.

I have an MTD Snow Thrower Model 2M1 with a broken starter rope. I replaced the rope but cannot get it to rewind the rope after I pull it. What am I missing when I reinstall the rope and spool?
ANSWER : When you have the starter top removed, you must wind the spring BEFORE installing the rope. Wind the pulley until it is at maximum tension, then unwind it until the hole in the pulley lines up with the eyelet on the starter top. Now, put the rope thru the eyelet and into the pulley hole. It is helpful to have somebody holding the tension on the pulley, or you can insert a small tool thru the vent holes to hold the pulley in place. Use a figure 8 knot on the rope. Go ahead and tie the handle onto the other end of the rope, and release the pulley tension. It should now recoil into the starter housing. Test pull the rope several times to make sure it is moving freely. Reinstall the starter housing onto the engine and retest.
Good luck!

I read the entry about the starter rope but I can not get any tention on the pully at all. Is there some trick or could the spring be broken.
ANSWER : Have to turn the pully in same direction as you would pull the rope to get it to lock and then keep turning it for about 6-8 turns to put tension on it then put the rope on it.
