Replacing all fuel lines. need to know how to route fuel lines from gas tank to carburator to primer bulb
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb. The return line (blue) comes from the long post on the back of the primer bulb and goes into the bottom of the fuel tank.
Most vehicles have rubber fuel hoses connecting the fuel pipes on the chassis to the fuel pump or carburetor on the engine. Rubber hoses are flexible and can be cut to length as required, but they have a tendency to perish over time and can rub through if not properly secured.
A single fuel pipe runs from the tank, under the floor of the car to a mechanical pump on the engine. The pump delivers fuel to the carburettor. Whenever you check fuel pipes, disconnect the battery to prevent stray sparks igniting petrol or petrol vapour.
Most cars come from the factory with Metal Lines because they hold up better than any soft material. They are usually made from stainless, aluminum or coated steel tube. Metal is the best material for fuel lines.
The main colors used in ISO 14726 are as follows:
Blue – Fresh water. Brown – Fuel. Green – Sea water.
The single line goes in one side, and on the other side, the center outlet barb connects to the carburetor and the smaller one goes to the return line. The key here is to install the fuel filter so that its second outlet (the return) is at the 12 o`clock position, above the center outlet port.
The carburetor is controlled by pressure differences. In the main body of a four-barrel carburetor there are four venturi. The shape, size and length of each help determine airflow and fuel flow into the engine. The term venturi came from its inventor Giovanni Battista Venturi.
The return line opens to the fuel bowl of the carburetor. This return line is separate from the fuel line. A fuel pumping means is connected to the fuel line for passing fuel at a desired rate from the fuel tank through the fuel line to the carburetor.
The return lines, which are the fuel lines after the regulator, can generally be one size smaller than the feed line. Return lines (the fuel line after the regulator) can generally be one size smaller than the feed line.
Material: Metal fuel lines are made from materials such as steel or aluminum, while rubber fuel lines are made from rubber or other elastomeric materials. Braided fuel lines are typically made from a metal or synthetic fiber braid that is wrapped around a rubber or other elastomeric core.
One is the high pressure line, which sends fuel to the injectors. The other is the return line, which dumps fuel that the injectors don`t use back into the tank.
It`s hard to deny that rubber hose is still a popular choice for many homebuilt fuel systems. It is relatively inexpensive and very easy to install. Compared to other options such as rigid aluminum tubing, it has one major shortcoming: It has limited life and cannot be considered a permanent part of the airframe.
The primer bulb is generally placed close to the engine, and usually downstream of any fuel filters or water-separtors. Many new engines are delivered without a fuel disconnect fitting, and instead just provide a short stub of fuel line from the engine cowling.
Polytetrafluoroethylene also has less surface friction than rubber, which means that flow can be improved by using PTFE hoses. While rubber is prone to break down at extreme temperatures, PTFE is highly temperature resistant, making it ideal for all kinds of industries.
In terms of safety, plastic has a larger space between chemicals than rubber, so when a gas with small molecules such as liquefied petroleum gas is transported in a plastic hose, the gas molecules may penetrate through the hose. Such a leak is dangerous, and so plastic hoses may not be used for fuel gas.
Regular gasoline, additized gasoline, and premium gasoline can be told apart visually by their color: regular gasoline ranges from colorless to yellow, while the other two are colored with a dye, which may be of any color but blue (which is reserved for aviation fuel), but which is normally green for additized and …
The combination of oil and water that makes up the gasoline separates into layers, and the oil layer reflects the light. The light frequency and the thickness of the oil in different parts of the spill are what creates the different colors.
Fuel piping inside buildings is typically carbon steel piping. Regulations prohibit pipe materials such as plastics that would have a relatively low failure temperature in the event of a fire. Schedule 40 carbon steel black pipe is typical for primary piping.
Fuel filters are primarily designed to keep particles out of the fuel, but they also affect flow. If a fuel filter becomes clogged, it can restrict fuel to the engine when it needs it the most.
A plugged fuel filter will restrict fuel flow to the engine. The drop in pressure may not be noticeable at idle, but as engine speed goes up, there may be a significant drop in pressure and a decrease in flow. The fuel filter is the fuel system`s first line of defense against contaminants.
The fuel pump will try to compensate for a bad fuel filter, placing undue pressure on the fuel pump motor causing the pump to fail prematurely. Contaminates that get past a dirty fuel filter can damage, clog or cause a fuel injector to leak, leading to all types of engine drivability problems.
Pressure output, regulated return and vapor to charcoal canister for the EVAP emissions control system.
A poor connection can cause enough resistance to lower the amount of voltage reaching the pump. This causes the pump to turn more slowly than it should, and can shorten the life of the pump. Replacing the vehicle side connector should solve the issues with poor connections, but sometimes causes another problem.
The Fuel Lines connect all of the various Fuel System components. Steel lines and flexible hoses carry the fuel from the tank to the engine. When servicing or replacing the steel lines, copper or aluminum must never be used. Steel lines must be replaced with steel.

Replaceing fuel line in polan 3300 chain saw – Poulan Pro 42CC 2 Cycle Chainsaw, 18"
ANSWER : Hi owjbhend…
Use a piece of wire and insert it into the fuel line, then bend a hook in the end and hook it over the end of the fuel line…lubricate the fuel line with some vaseoline very lightly…about the first one inch of the fuel line and then use your fingers to start the fuel line into the tank, once you have the fuel line in the tank give enough to hook the fuel filter to and so it can be dropped back into the tank.
Below is a drawing of how to route the fuel lines.

Fuel line is bad and needs replaced. need to know
ANSWER : One line should be hooked to a small fuel filter or screen.
The other one is a dump or over flow that will put a small amount of unused fuel back into the tank.
You can buy this type of line at most Lawn Mower shops as a kit. 2 lines and a filer/screen.
You can use line for air shocks that fit some cars ie. Cadillac’s

The saw starts up fine, runs fine but not for long. it runs for about 1 minute and dies. like it is out of fuel or sucking air, i noticed there is no filter on the suction line and there is another nipple entering the fuel tank which appears to need a hose on it , is this just a return line, or should the long line in side the tank press on to this nipple? thanks,
ANSWER : I’ve had my pp4218 for about 2 years and the fuel lines have rotted. I’m thinging from ethanol in the gas. However, I’m replacing them and cannot tell which lines go where. Does the large line from the bubble go to the filter and the little line return?

How to conect fuel lines to poulan chain saw 2375 Le
ANSWER : The hose coming from the fuel tank with the filter on the end goes to the fuel inlet on the carb, this is the conection closest to the alloy pump cover held with a single screw, now take a hose from the other conection on the carb to the shorter ( suction side ) conection on the back of the primer, take a hose from the longer conection ( pressure side ) on the primer back to tank, this just pushes into the tank, just remember that the primer pulls fuel from the carb and dumps it back to tank.

How do i gey new fuel line through case and into tank?
ANSWER : Is there a metal fitting on the tank top that will unscrew? If so, pull the old line out with the fitting (remove the filter first). Be sure to use original type line, not plastic which is not flexible enough. Hope this helps!
