Why is my compressor relief valve opening? The pressure relief valve opening can be either a sign that excessive pressure is building up inside the compressor or a sign of the valve failing.
The safety valve pops open to relieve excessive air pressure if the pressure switch fails to shut off the air compressor at the cut-out pressure setting. Replace the safety valve if it leaks or pops open at normal operating pressure.
Pressure relief and safety relief valves will leak if the valve isn`t fully closed. This is a common problem in industrial settings where environments are often dusty or dirty. If there is any debris in the valve, it can obstruct the valve from fully closing, causing it to leak.
Unloader valve failure — Power lags also result from failed unloader valves. This problem can be diagnosed by manually enacting the valve function. Open the tank and drain out the air and water, then close and power back up. If the compressor bogs down once again, the valve needs to be replaced.
It`s supposed to open to relieve pressure in the tank when necessary. If this is happening with frequency, you should consider lowering the temperature. If that doesn`t seem to make a difference, you may have a compromised T&P valve.
“The symptoms could be a loss of cooling or refrigeration, higher-than-normal suction pressures with low discharge pressures, the compressor being very quiet, or low amp draw,” he said.
99.9% of the time, if air leaks from a valve or air valve manifold, it is because you have a bad seal on an air cylinder or rotary actuator. With a worn or damaged piston seal (1), the compressed air holding the air cylinder in the retracted position leaks.
When a compressor`s valves go bad, the system will overwork itself to the point that it begins overheating. This can lead to serious issues and damage to other parts of your system. The longer it goes on, the more likely you are to experience electrical issues inside of your HVAC unit as well.
How Do Pressure Relief Valves Work? Pressure relief valves for air compressor systems are simple, spring-loaded mechanisms. When the inlet pressure force is greater than the spring load, the safety valve opens in proportion to the increase in pressure and allows air to “leak out” as needed.
By turning the adjustment screw counterclockwise until the pressure gauge is below the desired setting, you will loosen the jam nut and reduce the spring tension. You will then need to retighten the adjustment screw tension by turning the adjustment screw clockwise to the desired setting.

Brand new machine and it ran fine for the first 5 minutes then when I squeeze the trigger now the pump takes a second to click on then when it does the engine stalls
ANSWER : Sound like you need to replace the unloader valve,or take it apart and free it up,lube the seats and o rings and retry the washer to see if it works. The valve has the pressure regulator in it so the knob that you adjust the pressure with needs to come off and then just unscrew the unloader valve.

Kobalt air compressor 80 gallon. I run this compressor to drive a CNC plasma cutting torch. I use a 1/2 inch pvc air line for about 40 feet. A gage at the cnc computer system will show 125 lbs (set by pressure gage) and is fed 150 lbs from the compressor. While cutting the plasma fails due to low air. The gage at this time shows about 60 lbs of pressure. The compressor still pushing 125 to 150 lbs of air. When the torch stops air flow (cooling) the needle very slowly moves back up to 125 lbs. This indicating the air may not be delivered from the compressor. No regulator at compressor. Using a brass shut off valve before the regulator at plasma torch. What can possibly keep the air of 150 lbs at compressor from reaching the regulator quickly. Is a vapor lock of some sort possible? I disconnect the hose which connects compressor from the pvc and allow it to depressurize completely and when I hook it back up it does fine for 10 minutes or so. When the low air starst, it stops after every cut.

Karcher 211 – no motor action
ANSWER : Dear Tigger82 (also montaver2000),
This explaination is relavent to various Karcher models, especialy your model. When you are using the machine with the gun open….presurised water comes out of the lance. When you close the gun, the machine stops. This happens by means of a Spill Valve or often called the Control Valve. When the gun is closed, this spill valve cotracts with built up pressure and at the same time works on a miro switch which cuts the electricity….and thus stops the electric motor. Now in many cases when the gun is again opened, this spill valve sticks and keeps the electric circuit closed.
In all cases you must open the cover, and locate this spill valve. Sometimes it is easy to see a micro switch on it. If you remove the miro switch from the spill valve the motor will for sure turn.
Now the spill valve gets stuck for many reasons. One of the reasons is that you leave the machine under pressure for a long time and even store away the machine with pressure still in the system. A spill valve also gets stuck due to detergent. I sometimes service the spill valve and lubricate with special solicon grease. But the best way is to change the spill valve with a new one. So in a few words, the spill valve is stuck and leaving the microswitch off. So the electric motor cannot turn. One final hint is that sometimes the spill valve is difficult to remove. So all one has to do is attach water supply and switch on the pump. With the pressure produced the spill valve will be pushed out. In my oponion this job must be done by a person who knows what he is doing. Carefull that you have safety electrical breakers. See that you have safety shoes, safety gloves and eye protection.

Karcher 3.97M Short cycles after trigger is released.
ANSWER : Dear csdamman,
There is a valve called the spill-valve. It is often called the control valve. This valve activates the micro-switch. When the gun is released, pressure builds up and compresses this spill valve. At the same time it puts off the micro-switch. This will then stop the machine. Now when the spill valve is faulty it cannot hold compreesion under pressure so it starts de-compressing and starts the machine again. This goes on in a cycle as you explained. So you have to change the spill valve. If the spill valve that operates the micro-switch is part of the upper head,…then the whole head must be renewed. Myself I rarely service Spill Valves. The best thing is to renew it. From your explanation it seems that you did not take notice of this Spill-Valve. Infact when you mentioned Pressure Switch, I do not know if you are refering to the spill valve. If you are….then saying that the Pressure Switch moves and operates freely, does not mean that it is OK.
In certain machines in the outlet…there is a small valve, coloured black and red or green and yellow. This sometimes when faulty, it gives the fault you mentioned. Sometimes an inlet valve gives the fault you mentioned. But from my expirience it is most of the time that the Spill-Valve is the fault.

I have an 18hp els series overhead valve briggs and stratton engine on my lawn tractor. I had problems with hard starting and readjusted the valve clearances which took care of that problem. I am also having problem with the carburetor (Walbro) that it does not shut off fuel flow when I shut off the engine, so I installed a fuel shutoff valve and shut down the engine using the valve so that the engine does not flood. I am now having trouble with the engine running very rough at full throttle after it’s been operating fine for a few minutes. If I ****** the throttle just a bit it helps for a while. If I shut off the fuel valve it runs fine until it runs out of fuel. Any ideas as to what’s going on? I’ve taken apart and cleaned the carburetor several times.
ANSWER : Hi, there are two possible causes. Firstly have you changed the oil since you had the flooding issue? If not the oil will be fuel contaminated which will make the mower run rich by drawing fuel vapor via the crankcase vent. Secondly remove the carby bowl, hold the float exactly parallel with the carby body with the fuel tap on. No fuel should flow out until you lower the float from parallel. If it does replace the needle under the float. Hope this helps, regards Phil.
