How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

There`s no difference between a `strimmer` and a `trimmer`, they`re the same tool.
Strimmers often have a nylon or plastic blade, which deals with grass trimming and weeds just fine but could easily break upon contact with overgrown areas. Brush cutters, on the other hand, use metal blades to get through thicker, hardier vegetation.
If you`re looking to use a trimmer on a small lawn, or for light use, electric models from 250 to 400W or cordless models with 12V and above will be suitable. For larger lawns with difficult areas, more power will be required – opt for a cordless electric model above 14V, a corded trimmer above 450V or a petrol model.
Use of the strimmer tool should be limited to a maximum daily operation of 1 hour by any one individual.
But it`s not just long grass in tight spots that a strimmer is good for. They`re great at scything down long grass ready for a lawnmower, good at getting rids of weeds wherever they live and the ideal tool for creating crisp clean lawn edges.
If you really must strim wet grass, you can. But make sure it`s only once in a while. Cutting grass when it`s wet also increases the chances of lawn diseases taking a hold and damaging your lawn.
A 4-stroke engine completes a cycle of intake, compression, ignition, and exhaust, so it is called a 4-stroke engine. Therefore, overall combustion efficiency and exhaust gas volume of a 4-stroke brush cutter is better than 2-stroke.
To keep things in simple terms, a grass trimmer is suited to trimming edges, hard to reach lawn areas, and providing finishing touches to lawns. On the other hand, brushcutters are designed to take on dense weeds, fibrous grass and areas of thick vegetation that a grass trimmer would struggle to cut.
This probably comes as no surprise to anyone, but the general rule with string trimmer line size is that the tougher the application, the thicker the line needs to be. A larger diameter line increases the power and durability of the line, which leads to less breakage and wear-out.
A string trimmer, also known by the portmanteau strimmer and the trademarks Weedwacker, Weed Eater and Whipper Snipper, is a garden tool for cutting grass, small weeds, and groundcover.
Also known as grass trimmers, weed-whackers, line trimmers and string trimmers, these versatile tools are perfect for creating beautifully uniformed boarder edges, trimming around difficult terrain such as trees and garden ornaments, as well as clearing larger patches of unruly rough vegetation.

I have a problem with a Husqvarna 22r strimmer. This isfairly old, but it has been a good machine and was working OK until recently. Then it started running rough and I kept having to re-tune it. Now it will not start at all and the carburettor just floods and fuel drips out of the air intake. When I could not fix it I took it to the local dealer who thoroughly cleaned the carburettor and changed the diaphragm and needle, but it still floods and dies after initially firing up. The dealer said the carburettor needs changing but that this model (nikki) is now obsolete. I am reluctant to throw the machine on the scrap jeap if it may be fixable. Does any one have any ideas?
ANSWER : I had a similar problem with my 22R. I dismantled and cleaned the carb
three times before noticing that there wasn’t noticeable output from the
exhaust. Turns out I was looking in the wrong place! The symptom was a
flooding condition, but the cause wasn’t in the fuel supply but in some
bug that decided to live in the muffler. I cleared the obstruction and
it runs like new again. This is an older trimmer and you are
right–most parts are no longer available. If you can’t get yours
working, it’s worth something to me for parts!
