How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

Brakes Out of Adjustment: The most common reason a hand brake does not hold a car on an incline is that the brakes are out of adjustment. Most hand brakes are self-adjusting, which means that they automatically adjust through use.
If the parking brakes won`t hold the car, then you need to check the following: Parking brake lever/pedal out of adjustment or stuck. Parking brake cable stretched. Rear brake shoes/pads worn out.
Pull the handbrake lever on three clicks. Loosen the locknut and screw it back along the threaded part of the outer casing a few turns. Screw the adjuster nut in the same direction until some resistance is felt on the cable. Turn a wheel – it should turn only with firm hand force.
There are springs and retainers to hold the mechanism in place. The adjustment takes place when the vehicle is in reverse and the brakes are applied or when the parking brake is engaged. The cable or link attached to the anchor pin pulls the lever mechanism based on the movement of the secondary shoe.
You should use your emergency brake every time you park. It doesn`t matter if you`re on a hill or a flat parking lot, whether you drive an automatic or manual transmission, or whether the weather is pleasant or inclement.
Parking brake shoes are designed to self-adjust, but the self-adjusting system can often fail. The brake shoe is housed in the drum and experiences lots of heat and brake dust that eventually leads to wear and tear.
Parking brake failure
If your parking brake (handbrake) fails, leave the car in first or reverse gear (or Park) when you park and chock your front wheels against the kerb. It is not wise to leave your car on a hill if your parking brake fails, even with the wheels chocked. Stay calm – stay safe!
Sometimes, a stretched, loose, misaligned or snagged cable affects the feel of your handbrake. For example, it might feel stiffer than usual when you move the handle up or down. Or, the handle might feel loose and wobbly. You might need to put more effort into locking it into its on or off positions.

Tanaka chain saaw starts welll but chain won’t turn seems to be in a bind . the lock is not on
ANSWER : Chain adjusted too tight?Chain Brake loaded with saw dust?
Chain will not move with engine running. Brake is off
ANSWER : Try loosening the chain adjustment (bar) screw or locate and clear as needed any material found to be caught between the drive sprocket and chain.
How do I get the brake band ,located inside the chain cover, assembled back onto the chain saw. clutch assembly. The band brake diameter seems too small to fit around the clutch housing.
ANSWER : You need to load the brake, clamp it in a vice, be carefull not to damage the cover, if the hand gaurd is connected to the brake pull it fully back until the locks off, this may take a fair amount of force as it is compressing a large spring, if the hand guard is on the machine, remove it and use this as a tool to load the brake, the only other way is to remoce the clutch and sprocket, now refit the brake onto the saw, now pull the hand guard fully back to load the brake.
The engine starts but the chain does not move even when the throttle is applied and then it starts to smoke the whine does not sound like it has full power either
ANSWER : Can you move the chain by hand? If not, the chain brake may be set or damaged so that the chain cannot move. Is the chain adjusted extremely tight? Is bar oil getting to the chain? The smoke is probably coming from the clutch which is trying to drive the chain. The chain should be adjusted so that the chain just comes up to the lower bar edge, but allows free turning of the chain by hand. Get back to us if you need further help.
Base adjust. on carb high and low needles on carb polen 42 18″ thanks
ANSWER : The standard setting on needles is to screw them in all the way and then back them out 1 and a half turns.
You need to set the mixtures for the carburetor. You will find a Low and High adjustment screw. turn the low adjustment screw out. You will notice that the rpms should start increasing. keep turning it out until the rpms start to drop then turn it back in a quarter of a turn. You may need to readjust the idle speed so the chain doesn’t turn during idle. Do the same for the high adjustment screw.
My brakes are not braking correctly, I need to know where to adjust
ANSWER : Hello eddher:
The Following is a General Instruction File I Made for this Problem. Readjust the Brake Rods to the Original Positions. Now to Adjust the Brake Pads. Tighten the Center Adjusting Nut Until SNUG. Loosen the Adjuster Nut 1/8 Turn and Try the Brakes. If Braking is Not to your Satisfaction, then Adjust the Center Adjusting Nut on the Disc Brake Assembly Slightly (1/8″ at a time) Until the Proper Braking is Achieved.
The Brake Assembly is on the Left Side of you Hydro Transaxle.
