How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Pump does not Start No Electricity Ensure that the pump is connected to a live outlet. Pressure Controller has detected that there is not water in tank. Check that there is enough water in the tank, then press the “reset” or “Start” button on the pressure controller.
It features automatic pump control to minimise the use of electricity while saving water. When your tank is empty, WaterSwitch seamlessly switches to mains supply so that there is no interruption of water to your toilet cistern or washing machine.
Close the gate valve, unscrew the priming plug and fill the pump and suction lines with water. Replace the priming plug tightly, and turn the pump on. Pressure should rise above 275kPa (40psi). Open the gate valve slowly to purge remaining air from the pump and suction lines.
Inspect your breaker box and see if the breaker has tripped, and if it has, then reset it and you should restore power to the pump. If the breaker trips again, then there is an electrical or mechanical issue with the water pump, which will require a professional plumber. Ensure the “on” switch is engaged.
Open contacts located within the switch, closes when pressure drops. This completes an electrical circuit, which in turn activates the pump. When the set pressure is reached, this allows the contacts to open again which turns off the pump. Pressure switches are usually wired to a control box.
A pressure switch can be located either outside or in your basement, garage or pool housing, depending on how your well system is set up. If you have a submersible pump, the switch is in a different location than the pump—typically set on a pipe entering the pressure tank.
To get it working again, your water pump will need to be primed. This means that water will need to be flushed back into the pump and forced through – this creates the pressure it needs to begin pumping again. We`ve put a quick guide together to help you through the basic steps of priming your water pump.
If the water pump is running but no fluid is being pumped this could be blocked inlet suction filter, check valves failed with pumps bypassing, blocked discharge lines, electric motor polarity is incorrect or incorrect pressure settings parameters amongst other issues.
Look at the factory specifications for your pump and ensure that it is receiving the correct electrical power supply in order to work properly. Ensure that all electrical wiring is in good condition, that there are no loose connections and that the electrical current is reaching your pump in the first place.
If your switch won`t turn on, this could be a sign your tank pressure is above your switch`s cut-in pressure. Try running some water elsewhere in the building to reduce pressure below the cut-in level. You can also try gently tapping on the pressure gauge, the switch, and the tank.
A pump or water tank pressure control switch is designed and adjusted to turn the pump on at a “cut in” pressure, usually 20 psi or 30 psi, and to turn the water pump off at a “cut out” pressure, usually 40 psi or 50 psi.
A pump relay acts like a switch that the controller can turn on to provide power to the pump. Since the controller outputs 24Volts AC power, and most pumps require anywhere from 110-220 Volts AC, the pump relay acts as a step-up transformer to route additional power to the pump and activate it.
Your well pump may have stopped working due to a lack of power. Sometimes resetting a breaker or replacing a fuse affected by a power surge or brownout can fix this. If the well pump circuit breaker has tripped, the well pump itself may be failing.

Start by checking that the well switch located near your pressure tank hasn`t been switched off. Then check the well`s double-pole circuit breaker to see that it hasn`t tripped. If it has, reset it. A breaker that keeps tripping likely means a problem with the well pump, and you`ll need to call a pro for that.

Sump pump hums and then kicks breaker. Will not pump. I cleaned everything, still have problem
ANSWER : Pump motor is jammed causing overload and resulting breaker trip. Try to turn the pump shaft by hand, it should be very easy to turn. If there’s any resistance check for blockage.

I have a 1/2 horse wayne shallow well pump. At times the water in the house slows to a trickel. This will happen for about 40-120 seconds then the pump seems to kick on and the pressure is restored. I have replaced the high low switch and the problem persists. Please let me know any thoughts on the problem. Thank You
ANSWER : Check air in your water tank should be less than you’re cut in pressure..

I have a pressure booster pump installed which turns on automatically when we open the tap and turns off by itself when we close the tap, but when power goes and comes back(common in india), the pump will turn on even with no tap opened and does not turn off automatically and goes on running, some kind of airlock problem I think, when we just shut off and on water input several times, it again starts working well
ANSWER : Check to see if the output pipe has water in it when the pump swutches off the pump needs to be primed at all time what we normally find cases like this is the pump is higher than the supply or there is an air pocket on the output where the pressure sensor is

My pool pump makes a buzzing noise but there is no water circulating into the pool and no suction what-soever. What could be the problem?
ANSWER : First, Check your voltage at the terminal with a voltmeter. If it is within 10% of what is stated on the name plate, try the following suggestions. If is is more than 10% off, call an electrician. Common problems that cause this humming with no suction in these pool pumps are:-Take the pump apart and look for rubbing that could be causing your pump to tighten up. -Check for a seized motor. If the motor has seized up, you will have to have it repaired or replaced.-It could be a winding switch or capacitor problem. Again, a pro will have to service it.
