I don’t know what a pope spitfire is, but the post indicates it’s a pushmower — in that case, I would use 30 W non-detergent.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
10W30 is a common motor oil grade suitable for many lawn mowers. Your owner`s manual will tell you the exact grade required, but in almost all cases 10W30 is the right stuff for a four-stroke engines. Any brand of oil that`s suitable for cars or trucks will work fine in your mower.
Engines on most outdoor power equipment operate well with 5W30 Synthetic oil. For equipment operated in hot temperatures, Vanguard 15W50 Synthetic oil provides the best protection.
SAE-30 oil is often a safe bet for your mower, but it`s still worth referring to your owner`s manual since a lawnmower is no small investment. Since you won`t be mowing in the wintertime unless you have a landscaping emergency in colder temperatures, there`s no reason to use a multi-grade motor oil such as 5W-30.
SAE 30 the most common, and is is typically used in warmer climates. SAE 10W-30 is best for varying temperature ranges and is best for starting in cold climates. The trade off here is the potential for higher oil consumption. Synthetic oil is also an option for your riding lawn mower.
There`s not much difference between 10W-30 and 10W-40 motor oil. What sets them apart has more to do with temperature fluctuations and engine load. For moderate weather, either engine oil grades should work fine.
From racing motorcycles to passenger cars, 4-stroke oils power the engines of various vehicle types. Unlike 2-stroke engine oils, 4-stroke ones do not burn with the fuel. Instead, they go around the engine. While circulating, the oil lubricates the moving engine parts, disperses heat, and eliminates impurities.
While automotive engine oil, such as 10W-30 or 10W-40, can be used in a lawn mower engine, it is generally recommended that SAE 30 motor oil be used.
The recommended oil viscosity for your vehicle, according to Kia documentation, is 10W-40. If you drive the vehicle in exceptionally cold weather, well below 32 degrees, you can use 5W-30 oil but even 10W-40 is still perfectly OK to use if outdoor temperatures are below freezing.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). Best of luck to you.James

What type of oil does it use? – Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966
I think all of these 4-stroke trimmers use SAE 30HD oil. I recommend synthetic. If you use synthetic, you can get away with using a multi-viscosity like 10W-30 if you can’t find straight SAE30 synthetic, but don’t use muti-viscosity conventional oil in these machines.
