If oil leaks from your pressure washer pump, one of the seals, gaskets or pistons may be damaged. Disassemble the pump and replace any worn or damaged parts. If that doesn`t help, the oil leak may be due to a loose fitting in the pump assembly. Give the pump a once over and tighten any loose bolts.
Pressure washer water pumps need relatively low oil recommended by the manufacturer, as specified in the owner`s manual. (Purchase pre-measured bottles of pump oil for water pumps without dipsticks.) Never use special oil additives or detergents, unless specified in the owner`s manual.

If the pump is leaking, the cause may be minor and easy to repair. Check the seals, packings, and O-rings for wear. These can easily be replaced, saving you the cost of a new pump. However, major leaks such as the ones caused by cracked or damaged plungers, can lead to pump failures.
We recommend to use type 32A hydraulic oil.
The most critical engine oil leaks are those that starve your engine of oil. If you see a large puddle on the ground, don`t try starting your engine. You may not have enough oil left to lubricate your engine and can cause permanent damage that can only be repaired by an engine rebuild or replacement.
The water pump contains several seals and gaskets that keep coolant enclosed and secure as it flows throughout the engine. As these seals and gaskets age, they will become worn, cracked, and dried out. Once this occurs, the coolant can leak from the water pump.
Coolant leaks from the water pump are common and a clear sign that it`s time to replace the pump. The coolant is stored inside the water pump using a series of gaskets and seals. Once these parts wear out, loosen, or crack, you`ll end up with radiator fluid leaking out of the front of your car toward the center.
You should unclog the weep hole. But a clogged or leaking weep hole means that the water pump has bad seals. It`s better to just replace the entire water pump assembly once you find a clogged weep hole to avoid further issues.

Oil appears to have come out of the oil filler cap. Is this a sign of overfilling the oil, or something else?
ANSWER : Id definitley say its over filled. try checking the dipstick

In the site gauge on the side of the pump, where should the oil level be?
ANSWER : Oil should cover half of the site gauge.

What oil do i use in the pump? The oil is milky and needs changing.
ANSWER : Well you can use direct recommended from Ace Hardware see link.


They recommend 250 hours, but i’d change more often, like you said when it’s milky. If it begins to get water in the oil sooner, that indicates your piston to crankcase seal is beginning to leak.

Lost high pressure
ANSWER : Piston rings defective. Replace. Possibly scored cylinder walls that may need to be resurfacing or replaced.

My pressure washer will start for a second and then shuts down. I just bought it from a friend and don,t think the springs to the govner are right but not sure.would like a skicamitc of the engine or manual so i can see if they are right
ANSWER : When you start your engine open wand trigger this will probably allow you to get the engine warmed up and I think it’ll work for you it used to work for us .

ANSWER : Things to check:
1) is water coming out of the bottom of the pump or is the oil in the crankcase high level and milky yellow. If so your seals are bad.

2) Your check valves might not be seating properly. A couple of fouled check vavles will cause either no pressure or pulsing pressure. A good inlet water strainer keeps foreign matter out of valves. But valves do wear out and get build up that keeps them from working right.

3) Your unloader valve might be worn or fouled. Bad unloader would usually show as low pressure ( but more than hose pressure) or low volume out the trigger nozzle.

Valves are your most likely problem.
