There should never be oil on the plug, neither on the “inside part” nor the “outside part”. If oil is on the “inside part” of the plug, then the problem is likely a head gasket, valve stem seals, or worn rings.
Replace the riding mower head gasket

If you notice an oil leak and your mower`s engine can`t reach normal operating speed or the mower struggles to climb a hill, the engine may have blown the head gasket. The head gasket seals the cylinder head to the top of the engine.

The carburetor oil leakage phenomenon, is caused by the destruction of the balance system.
One of the easiest ways to fix the leak yourself is to use a stop leak additive or high mileage oil blend. Such products can soften and condition your car`s rubber seals to stop and prevent further automotive leaks. It may take up to a few hundred miles of driving before the leak is completely sealed.
Compared with OHC engines, OHV engines have the following disadvantages: Limited engine speeds: Although OHV engines have simpler drive systems for the camshaft, there are a greater number of moving parts in the valvetrain (i.e. the lifters, pushrods and rockers).
OHVs are known for durability, longevity and ease of maintenance. While OHC engines are generally reliable, if they do have problems, they`re usually much bigger problems.
Engine oil is the most common type of fluid leak. If the puddle of liquid is towards the front of your vehicle, its source is probable the engine. Dip your finger or a piece of paper towel into the liquid. If it is engine oil, the fluid will be brown or black, slick to the touch, and have a slightly burnt odor.
Common signs include reduced engine performance, black smoke coming from the exhaust, backfiring, overheating, or hard starting.
Common causes of oil leaks include degraded engine gaskets, leaks from the oil pan, or improper or worn out seals. An oil leak also can be caused by a loose or missing oil pan drain plug or deteriorated valve cover gaskets.
If you`ve noticed your lawn mower smoking and leaking oil, it`s most likely due to a dirty air filter. The air filter in an engine keeps debris and dirt out of it, while the grass and dust accumulate over time. When the air filters are clogged, oil can leak into the engine and out of the exhaust system.
Plant life: Oil in soil can kill nearby plants and grass and prevent the growth of new vegetation. It can also kill trees by contaminating their roots. Animals and pets: Local wildlife and pets may drink groundwater contaminated with oil.
Overfilling a lawn mower oil tank will negatively affect engine performance and possibly prevent the mower from starting. Too much oil in a lawn mower can easily clog the air filter, foul spark plugs, and potentially cause a hydro-lock, which could bend the connection rods in a multi-cylinder mower.
