Can I Use 5w30 In My Honda Lawn Mower? Despite the fact that Honda recommends using SAE 30 oil for their lawnmowers, you can use 5w30 and 10w30 multi-viscosity oil without any problems.
Honda recommends 10W-30 API SJ or later.
Honda, Kohler, and Kawasaki prefer 10W30 oil, but using 5W30 won`t hurt them any.
If you`re in a pinch to get yard work done, Honda suggests you can use the following oil types in certain weather conditions: 50° to 100° F: SAE 30. 25° to 60° F: 5W-30 oil.
Honda recommends 10W30, but 5W30 can also be used, or SAE 30 so long as temperatures are above 50 degrees F (10 degrees C.) This oil should meet API standard SJ or later. To check the oil, remove the dipstick from the filler neck, wipe off any oil, and reinsert it without screwing it back into the neck.
SAE 30 – Warmer temperatures, most common oil for small engines. SAE 10W-30 – Varying temperature range, this grade of oil improves cold-weather starting, but may increase oil consumption. Synthetic SAE 5W-30 – Best protection at all temperatures as well as improved starting with less oil consumption.
Although SAE 30 motor oil is usually suggested for use in lawn mower engines, the safest option is to use the oil recommended by your lawn mower manufacturer. The same motor oil types used in cars, such as 10W-30 or 10W-40, can often be used in a lawn mower.
Is SAE 30 Oil The Same As 10W-30? No. Unlike SAE 30, SAE 10W-30 is multi grade oil. SAE 10W-30 has SAE 10W viscosity at a lower temperature and SAE 30 viscosity at a hotter operating temp.
The friction modifiers in car oil is used for improved fuel economy. So Honda recommend that the CBF1000 uses 10W30, known as the viscosity numbers. The “W” stands for “winter”, which relates to how the oil will flow when cold. The second number defines how the oil will flow at normal running temperature.
Honda engines are developed, tested and certified with petroleum based motor oils as a lubricant. Synthetic oils may be used; however, any motor oil used in our engines must meet all oil requirements as stated in the owner`s manual. In addition, recommended oil change intervals must be followed.
Can I Use 5W-30 Instead Of SAE 30? Both oils have a “30” hot viscosity rating. This means SAE 5W-30 oil has the same flow rate as SAE 30 at operating temp. So, technically it`s fine to use SAE 5W-30 oil in place of SAE 30.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). Best of luck to you.James

I have a Honda GX240 that burns oil like crazy. Rings are perfect as are the valve guides..what’s the problem?
One major problem is how much oil u put into it,if you over full it ,on the down stroke the oil will compress, forcing the oil, between the rings, causing it too burn.
Changing engine oil on a gx390 engine for pressure washer excel
On the very bottom of the motor is a square plug to drain the oil. The machine must be elevated to allow the oil to flow into a drain pan. If you don’t see a square plug then look for a small 1/4 inch tube coming from the bottom of the crankcase with a hex cap on the end of it. If you cannot find either of these, then you must turn the pressure washer on its side and drain it through the same plug you fill from.
