If your pressure washer is refusing to work or even turn on, the culprit could potentially be the power switches. Most pressure washers use two micro switches that disconnect both the live and neutral connections between the supply and the motor. These switches can jam cutting the power out from reaching the motor.
It Can Harm The Unit

Without water to cool and lubricate it, the pump will work harder than it should, causing it to wear down quickly. This can happen even with just a few seconds of running the pressure washer without the water being turned on.

The hot and cold water hoses that lead to your machine should have a filter screen to catch any large particles that might be coming through the lines. Sometimes these screens can get clogged, which keeps water from flowing properly. This is probably the most common reason for a washer not filling with water.
How Do I Tell If My Unloader Valve is Bad? In most occurrences, the first symptom of an unloader valve going bad is no pressure from the wand when the trigger is pressed. This happens when the unloader valve gets stuck open and does not allow water to enter the hose and trigger.
If the pump is leaking, the cause may be minor and easy to repair. Check the seals, packings, and O-rings for wear. These can easily be replaced, saving you the cost of a new pump. However, major leaks such as the ones caused by cracked or damaged plungers, can lead to pump failures.

I have a Northstar pressure washer powered by a honda GC160 engine. The last time i used it, water leaks from the bottom of the unit, whether it is running or not. When running, the pressure is fine. I have felt underneath and it appears that the water is coming from the second opening from the rear. Is there a pressure relief valve there. I have a manual but cannot find any descriptors for underneath the motor.

Running pump stopped
ANSWER : I assume that the plug in is working properly. Always check power supply first. Is there a GFCI circuit that it is plugged into. Then check the pump to make certain it us turning. How long had it been on before unplugging it. It could be worn out. Sometimes it takes a jolt to start the motor again. How big is the motor. Possible bad capacitor. Could be a solid state motor, then it’s bad. Is it a magnetic motor, that could be turning the wrong way.

Water pump not running
ANSWER : Hi have you removed the pump from the well and tested if it will run without going via the presure switch. It could be that the pump is blocked. If it is blocked and has been for a while it may well have burnt out the pump. How deep is your well and how far from the bottom of the well is the pump. The pump should be positioned a good distance from the bottom of the well to prevent any silt getting into the pump to block it. I have a 110 meter deep well and the water level is 38 meters below ground. I have the pump at 50 meters below ground. I have only changed the pump once in 10 years.
I hope this helps

I have a deep water well, it has not been used a lot in the last few years & the water is brown, can this problem be rectified
ANSWER : Hi Enslow, I can only guess that if the well hasn’t been in use for some time then it’s possible that if you run the pump and get brown water it may clear in time. My suggestion is simply continue to run the pump few a decent period of time that maybe a few days . As you do this take samples in say clear glass containers and see if there is improvement. So take samples every couple of hours and it will be apparent if the water is clearing or not. Make sure the pump is a decent distance from the bottom of the well.
Hope that helps
