22″ Yard Machine Push Mower
Checked for spark, no spark to plug. Checked coil , cleaned up, regap to flywheel, still no spark. Removed ground to coil, no spark. Replaced coil,regaped, still no spark. What am I missing?

Gap needs to be 10 thousands of a inch done with a brass feeler gauge ..mag/flywheel has a spot with a magnetic field if you look you can see it it should make a 1/2 wrench stick to it if not replace mag/flywheel ..check key way also

If no spark appears, check for broken wires, shorts, grounds or a defective stop switch. Once you have confirmed that the stop switch is working, reconnect the spark plug lead. If your ignition start or push button start needs replacing, consult a Briggs & Stratton dealer near you.
If the ignition coil does not have spark, it`s time to check its wires. Use a test light to check the continuity on the signal wire and power wire on the ignition coil. If both wires are functional but the coil fails to produce spark, the ignition coil or the ignition control module is bad.
If your Briggs & Stratton engine has a spark but won`t run, then it is most likely a problem with the gas or air intake in the engine. The spark on the spark plug ignites the gas in the piston, but if the air filter is clogged or the gas can`t flow, then the engine won`t start.
Check to see if the switch and terminals are free from rust and replace any damaged or broken spark plugs wires as necessary. Alternatively, it could be a bad ignition module. A simple way of testing the ignition module is to leave the car idling for 30 minutes and then tap the ignition module with a screwdriver.
Incorrect timing is the most overlooked and misdiagnosed cause of a no-start. Perhaps you automatically think of ignition timing as the position of the crankshaft when the No. 1 plug fires. While this is important, it isn`t the only timing condition that can influence a no-start.
The starter will not have any impact on the engine`s ability to produce spark. There are a number of issues that may cause an ignition system to not produce spark. A bad crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (on engines that do not have a distributor), or broken, loose or corroded wires from the sensor to the PCM.
If the ignition relay shorts, burns out, or otherwise fails while the engine is operating it will cut off power to the fuel pump and ignition system. This will cause the vehicle to immediately stall due to fuel and spark being cut off.
Disconnected, dirty or fouled spark plugs are common causes for engines that won`t start. For small engines, spark plugs typically need to be replaced every season or after 25 hours of use. You should also check to make sure the spark plug gap is set correctly.
Bad Spark Plugs
If the engine holds compression well, and the fuel system is working correctly, but it still won`t start, that tells us that your car`s spark plugs may not be working. The spark plugs ignite the air/fuel mixture inside the engine`s cylinders. It`s the resulting explosion that actually powers your car.
If the engine will not crank, you likely have a problem with… Discharged / defective battery or faulty electrical connections. To address these issues, check the battery and charging system for problems. Faulty parts: potentially the safety interlocks, starter motor switch (open circuit) or solenoid.

ANSWER : Check compression, should be over 90psi to start. And check spark. The loud pop I am going to assume came from the exhaust, which if you lost spark would cause excess gas to ignite. Causes of no spark, bad coil, or defective and or damaged safty swith.
