How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The number one cause of low or no pressure when using a pressure washer is a blocked or worn nozzle. Blocked nozzles will prevent water from escaping, while a worn nozzle will allow too much water to pass through, causing the pressure to drop.
If the motor has stopped but is making a humming sound, it is usually a faulty capacitor. For your protection, electric power washers use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) which sometimes trips. In order to reset it, follow the instructions provided in your owner`s manual.
Often times, a machine producing low pressure will surge, cycle on and off, or continue to run. This typically indicates that the machine is losing pressure somewhere, such as a leak in one of the lines or inside the case of the machine.
If your pressure washer has no pressure, start by changing your nozzle to a brand new tip. The nozzle orifice size is what will determine the pressure output of your machine. Nozzles with larger orifices can be used to lower the pressure for cleaning softer surfaces, or applying chemicals.
Each time the power cord is plugged in to an outlet, the Reset button on the GFCI module must be pressed down to connect to electricity. Check to see if the Reset button has been pressed. Next, confirm the small plastic window below the Reset button shows RED in the window.
Air can enter the pump through any openings in the inlet plumbing to the pump. Entrapped air creates bubbles that may implode under pressure, causing caviatation and often loud pump “grinding” noises. Cavitation can wear internal pump components, resulting in possible pump failure.
If your home`s water pressure is too high, it can result in a humming sound within your pipes. The water pressure coming into your home shouldn`t be more than 80 psi. If you think this may be the reason for the humming, contact a qualified plumber to check that that water pressure is at the correct level.
There could be small leaks, holes, or tears in your garden hose or high-pressure hose that are causing your pressure washer to lose pressure when you pull the trigger. If you find leaks, plug the holes or replace the hose, which should solve your pressure issues.
How Do I Tell If My Unloader Valve is Bad? In most occurrences, the first symptom of an unloader valve going bad is no pressure from the wand when the trigger is pressed. This happens when the unloader valve gets stuck open and does not allow water to enter the hose and trigger.
Smoking pressure washers indicate the machine is not properly burning the fuel. When fuel is not burning correctly the unit will build up soot in the coil. Soot build up on the heat exchange coil is a symptom of an ill-maintained burner.
It depends on the pressure washing equipment you purchase. New pressure washers will be rated with a number of hours they should last. For example, if it is rated 500 hours and you use it fewer than 50 hours throughout the year then it will last you more than ten years as long as you keep it well maintained.
If the pressure washer does not start, then the first thing to check is the fuse in the plug. The reading you`re looking for is the same as it would be when connecting the two probes of the multimeter together (as you can see in the example of this video, this fuse is actually fine).
They`re quieter

The noise a gas-powered washer makes can reach up to 100 decibels, which is enough to harm your hearing if you`re not careful. Electric washers, on the other hand, only emit about 78 decibels, which is similar to a conventional washing machine.

A rattling sound inside a pump may be caused by damaging cavitation, resulting from imploding internal gaseous bubbles due to restricted flow, improper pressure, or other issues. Likewise, water hammering, a single implosion of a large gaseous bubble or air pocket might sound like a loud bang.
Surging occurs when the pressure is fine and then weakens. It is caused when the flow rate for the pump cannot be supported by the water supply. Problems can mount from there so it is important that it is dealt with as soon as possible.
A dirty inlet or discharge valve is the most common cause of a pulsating pressure washer. Dirt or hard water can get caught up in these little divots. It is important that you clean out these pieces every so often to prevent these kinds of problems.

If you only notice low water pressure when using the hot water setting, then you probably have a clogged hot water line (or vise-versa for cold water). The easiest solution to this problem is to replace the clogged line with a new one. Water lines can be purchased either online or at most major home improvement stores.
