Check the Battery
If it measures less than 12 volts, the battery is weak or dead and you`ve likely found the problem. Try recharging the battery using a charger. Or, you can use jumper cables to jump-start a riding lawn mower that uses a 12-volt battery.
If a mower is hard to start, it may be the result of a dirty carburetor and/or a clogged air filter. Use a screwdriver to remove the carburetor and clean any dirt out of it with a rag. Clean the air filter or replace it if it`s disposable.
Check the Battery
The battery is the next stop when investigating a slow cranking mower. A weak battery cannot sustain enough charge to spin the starter mower and turn the mower`s crankshaft. Mower batteries last around four years, so one that is older may be ready for replacement.
