How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Rear-tined tillers have wheels in the front that are mounted on a turning axel like a car. In this case, the wheels pull the unit forward when put in gear and the tines` only job is to dig. Most times, the rear-tines spin in the opposite direction of travel to provide more friction, which results in deeper digging.
For most jobs, a tiller depth between four and six inches will prove ideal, as you won`t encounter tree roots or rocks which can damage your rototiller. Once you have prepared the correct settings, it`s time to till the area. If the soil is compact and hard, start tilling with the shallowest setting.
Hand tillers are wonderful tools for preparing your garden`s soil in the springtime. They also work well to maintain your garden throughout the growing season by removing weeds and aerating the soil.
They are suitable for gardens that are even larger than 7,500 square feet. A rear tine tiller usually has a tilling width between 12 and 24 inches.
The rear tined tiller is the heaviest and most powerful tiller, and consequently the most expensive. They are easier to use, especially with rocks or large roots involved, but they are not quite as maneuverable as the front tine tiller and may be difficult to get into some tight corners.
Rear tine tillers break up hard ground and till it into soft garden soil that can easily be cultivated and sowed. They allow you to loosen soil effortlessly without the exhausting labor.
“Front-tine tillers are best for performing general garden maintenance, such as weeding, soil preparation, and composting in small or medium gardens,” McCoy says. “Alternatively, rear-tine tillers, which have engine-driven wheels, are best for larger planting areas.”
The motor tiller is essentially a lever that utilizes the torque leverage coming from the attached rudder post to change the direction of the motor and, eventually, the direction of your boat. Remember the bow of your boat is always going the opposite way as you pull or push the tiller.
Tiller: Why won`t my tillers wheels or tines turn? A broken drive belt, bad transmission or problem with the clutch cable can prevent a tiller`s wheels and tines from turning. Check the drive belt and replace it if it`s worn or broken.
After repeated use, the tines, or blades, dull and wear down. No matter what type or brand of tiller you own, these blades will need to be sharpened or replaced to keep your machine working properly.
With a powerful machine such as a tiller, you can level a large area and break new ground that will be used in creating a good planting bed or vegetable garden.
