I'm replacing a broken fuel line on my trimmer, and would like a diagram of how the lines are supposed to be assembled. The original lines fell apart in the tank, presumably from breaking down after years of use.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb. The return line (blue) comes from the long post on the back of the primer bulb and goes into the bottom of the fuel tank.
Fuel line. 15 Inches of of 1/4 inch inside diameter hose.
A typical fuel system
A single fuel pipe runs from the tank, under the floor of the car to a mechanical pump on the engine. The pump delivers fuel to the carburettor. Whenever you check fuel pipes, disconnect the battery to prevent stray sparks igniting petrol or petrol vapour.
Most vehicles have rubber fuel hoses connecting the fuel pipes on the chassis to the fuel pump or carburetor on the engine. Rubber hoses are flexible and can be cut to length as required, but they have a tendency to perish over time and can rub through if not properly secured.
In gasoline cars in U.S., the return line was the fuel flow outlet of a back-pressure regulator on the fuel injector rail on top of the engine. It flowed back into the fuel tank.
The (clear) main fuel line with the filter (filter inside the fuel tank) goes to the bottom of the carburetor (or the elbow shaped nipple). The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb.
Fuel line diameter matters A LOT! A larger diameter is generally better, but the correct diameter is the best choice. If the diameter is too small: you won`t be able to support your horsepower goal. If the diameter is too big: the lines will take longer to pressurize.
Does size really matter when it comes to fuel lines? According to the fuel delivery system experts at Fuelab, it does. It`s because fuel line size and length have a direct effect on the amount of fuel pressure drop your fuel system will experience.
The fuel rail is the last distribution point in the fuel system before fuel is sent to the injector. In return-type systems, each fuel rail is connected directly to the injectors that it feeds and relies on a fuel pressure regulator to relieve excess fuel pressure.
The return line should direct fuel close to the bottom of the tank and away from the pickup.
The fuel return hose is a fuel system hose that is found on vehicles equipped with carburetors. It`s primary purpose is to return excess fuel from the carburetor to the fuel pump, however it serves other important functions as well.

Need diagram for fuel line in tank fuel filter
ANSWER : The small diameter fuel line that has the fuel filter in the tank on it goes directly to the carburetor (with the built-in primer or externally mounted primer). IF the carb has the external primer, the small line goes to the nipple on the carburetor opposite the end with the hole in the cover. If it has the built-in primer on it, it goes to the carb body on the nipple furthest from the bulb. The large diameter line is the fuel return line and if the carb has the bulb on it, this line connects on the nipple closest to primer bulb.. With the externally mounted primer, this line connects on the longest nipple coming out of the primer and goes to the fuel tank (not the filter though). There is a nylon connector inside the tank that holds this larger line in place. The shorter nipple on primer bulb has a smaller diameter fuel line connected to it and connects to the nipple on the carb closest to the end with the hole in the cover. Built in primer has 2 fuel lines…externally mounted has 3.

Need to replace fuel lines on my Troy Bilt gas hedge trimmer. Where can I get replacement fuel lines… or better yet… what size are the lines and where can I buy a few feet of the lines. Note: I have reviewed the parts assembly and it would seem to indicate I have to replace the entire handle assembly (Part #1) instead of just buying replacement hose(s). Any help to resolve my issue would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance
ANSWER : Replacement fuel lines should be readily available at your local lawnmower repair shop. Your TroyBilt hedger uses fuel line that is 3/32″ (2.4mm) interior dimension, 3/16″ (4.8mm) outside dimension, with a 3/64″ (1.2mm) wall dimension.
Most manufacturers don’t offer replacement line, only fuel tank assemblies. Find your local shop, and try to get the TYGON brand…it is yellow. Tygon lasts the longest. You should be able to buy it by the foot for less than $2 per foot. You will need 2 feet of hose to replace both lines.
Make sure to clean the in-tank filter when replacing hoses.
Good luck.
My fuel lines are coming apart and I need to install new ones.
ANSWER : Go to sears direct, enter your model number and get a schematic of your tool. you can also order factory parts at that site. Just replace them just the way they are now and be sure to tighten down the hose clamps well, if they come with hose clamps. some do not and rely only upon friction fit. Joe
