Put on a pair of pants that fits well and stand in a relaxed position. Then wrap a soft tape measure through the belt loops so the tape is snug but not too tight. This measurement is your belt size. You may need to round up to the nearest even-numbered inch.
For most effective results, a lawn mower deck should have a pitch, or height difference of 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch between the front of the deck to the back of the deck. Naturally, this makes the sweet spot about 1/4-inch of pitch, depending on the mower model.

The “Deck Belt” goes around the pulleys right above the blades on the deck and then to a double pulley. The “Drive Belt” on your mower goes from the transmission, around an Idler pulley then over to the double pulley I mentioned before. The Drive belt also plays a role in making the wheels turn.
The deck belt on your riding lawn mower connects the crank shaft to the lawn mower blades, causing them to turn. If you notice cracks forming in the rubber, consider changing your deck belt. To avoid interruption while mowing, change the deck belt before it breaks.
To measure the width, a measuring tape can be used to measure the length of the belt from one side to the other. The thickness of the belt is typically measured with a caliper or micrometer. Once the length, width and thickness are determined, the correct size belt can be purchased to fit the lawn mower.

Need belt layout for deck blades on 26hp 54 inch cut
54″ deck on AYP/Husqvarna
I need the belt digram for a 50″ craftsman lawn tractor, it has two belts on the deck.. any help?
You need exact model numbers. Go to www.searspartsdirect.com put in your model number and see parts list. Go to the right hand side of page and click on manuals.
I had hit a somewhat hidden stump on the lawn..bending the blade. Took the deck off and replaced the bent blade. Put the deck back on and now the cut seems uneven. It appears that the deck is now uneven. I attempted to follow the directions for a side-to-side leveling. Started with trying to measure the blade height and am struggling with getting to a spot where I can measure the blade on the left side. By looking at the deck, it appears to be uneven. I am struggling with being able to raise the left side of the deck.
I’ve only had luck removeing the deck, turn it upside down. Measure blade, mark, remove blade, insert large pipe over spindle, bend in direction. Re-install blade, and do it all over and over till straight. Measure in several locations.

Craftsman 42 inch belt diagram
Look on deck or under foot pedal there is usually a diagram in those places
The belt that comes from the engine to mower deck keeps breaking. I’ve owned the mower for years and I have to buy atleast 12 belts per year. The problen is really bad now. A belt per cutting. I’ve raised the deck, tightened and loosened the tention, sharpened blades, changed to B v-bets to A, nothing seems to work. Changing the sise to a smaller width helped for a while. I had a service man come out my first month. He said the mower is fine. Claimed cutting to deep has to be the problem and left. I used a Ford 12 hp mower since high school 25 years ago……….no problems with it. Thought I should buy a new one because the old one looked rusty…. big mistake buying Craftsman.
I own a Craftsman rider, DTY 4000, 25 HP Kohler, 48″ cut, 137 Hrs. It eats a belt about every mowing or two. Did all the stuff you did. Good luck from Sears. Had cousin who is owns a lawn & garden repair business look at it today. Says the prob. is this – The drive belt pulley (elec clutch) has too a narrow “V” and the angle of wear between it and the deck when the deck is in the lowered (mowing) position is too severe. If you notice with the deck in the fully raised position the pulleys line up perfectly. Then drop your deck and see how tightly bent the belt is downward and it makes sense as to why(my) belt would first roll over then break in a few minutes. The elec clutch pulley is sold as one unit PT No. 179334 $250.00, but I’m sure it would come with the same narrow V pulley. Waiting for word from my cousin. My last Sears Mower. Cannot even sell it in good faith.
What size & length belt do I need for my yard machine? It is 12.5HP, 38″ cut. I don’t have any other info with me. Tks
The best thing you can do is get the model # (probably under the seat of the machine) and go online to www.m-and-d.com and type in the model # and they’ll give you the correct belt for your machine (from there you can probably buy locally).
