Earthquake, the lawn and garden division of Ardisam™, started in 1960 in a small metal fabricating shop in the town of Cumberland, Wisconsin.
The machine has a Viper® 99cc four-cycle (no oil + gas mixture) engine that runs on 87+ octane unleaded ethanol-free gasoline (or an ethanol blend if an ethanol fuel stabilizer is added) and 10W30 engine oil (included) The gas tank holds a little more than a half gallon of fuel.

Engine Maintenance
Because your tiller operates in dust and dirt, oil and filter changes are more critical than for lawn mowers and most other lawn and garden machines. At the very minimum, you should change the oil after 50 hours of use or at least once a year. If the oil looks dirty, change it more often.
What lubricant should be used in the tiller transmission case? In the past the rule was: For partial fill-ups (a few ounces or less) use SAE 140, SAE 85W-140 or SAE 80W-90 weight gear oil with an API rating of GL-4 or GL-5. For full replacement use SAE 140 or SAE 85W-140 gear oil with an API rating of GL-4 only.

After a few weeks of no use, my tiller started on the first or second pull but even after long warm up, it stalled as soon as I trottled up. This happens even on the stand with no resistance/load. The machine is not jammed–the tiller blades turn while the machine is idling. It just dies as soon as I try to work.

Can not find my manual for the mantis tiller..forgot hot to start it up for the first time
ANSWER : You should be able to go to the Mantis web site and download the owners manual. To start, make sure the switch in turned on, push the fuel primer bulb several times (until you feel resistance), pull the choke out all the way and pull the starter rope until it fires. Then, push the choke half way in and it should start. Let it run a 30 seconds to 1 minute and then push the choke all the way in. Be sure you are using the currect fuel/oil mixture with fresh gas and oil. If you have not done so already clean the air filter and replace the spark plug at the recommended interval.
