Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
They taught us gasket making in grade 9 automotive class using sheet gasket material and a ball peen hammer. Sometimes putting some grease or other on the metal to make an imprint on the gasket material (or cardboard template) and cutting with scissors. It may be the only way for something that old.

Q: How do I mix gas and oil? A: Mix 3.2 ounces of Poulan 2-cycle air cooled engine oil to one gallon of fresh unleaded gasoline to obtain the recommended 40:1 fuel to oil ratio.
Use unleaded gasoline and two-stroke oil mixed at a ratio of 2% (50:1). 50:1 gasoline to oil ratio.
The Poulan Pro 952030203 Bar and Chain Oil is Formulated for use by the logging industry, this oil helps prevent rust, resists high-temperatures, flows freely at low temperatures and has the ability to resist the extreme pressures bars and chains – bottle size is 1 Quart.
You can find Poulan Pro products both in-store and online at home improvement retailers, hardware stores, and mass merchants all over North America. We are here to help you tackle… ANY YARD.
The fuel and oil mixture should always be 2% (50:1).
This ratio indicates how much fresh, regular unleaded gasoline (containing no more than 10% ethanol) to mix with how much oil. For all Remington 2-cycle products, the ratio is 40:1. This means you`ll want to add 3.2 oz of oil to every gallon of gasoline.
Absolutely. 10w40 is thick enough to mostly stay on the chain. Regular bar and chain oil have additives that keep the oil from slinging off the chain. This is why it is always recommended to use regular chain oil.
The viscosity of chainsaw bar oil can vary, depending on the formula but 30W is standard. In cold weather, a thin 10W chainsaw oil may be advantageous, while very hot temperatures may require a much thicker 40W or 50W formula.
The Poulan brand name is used primarily for outdoor power equipment, such as chainsaws, lawn mowers, and leaf blowers, aimed at the mid-level consumer market. Since Poulan is owned by Husqvarna, the two brands often share technologies.
The fuel and oil mixture should always be 2% (50:1).
50 to1 means 50 parts of gas to 1 part of oil. So the 40 to 1 mixture is more oily and provides better lubrication for your piston rings. The downside is it will foul out your spark plug sooner, but that`s no big deal because it`s simple to pull the plug out and clean it and stick it back in.
For a 50:1 ratio of gas to oil, use 2.6 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas. For a 40:1 mixture, use 3.2 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
Running a 2-cycle with the wrong fuel to oil mixture can cause severe damage to your engine. Running the machine without any oil mixed in the fuel can cause severe damage to your equipment within just minutes. This damage is generally very costly to repair and is usually irreparable.
Mixing ratios

For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of petrol and 0.10 litres (100cm³) of STIHL two-stroke oil.

For example to mix 50:1 you use 50 parts fuel to 1 part oil, which equals one litre of fuel to 20 millilitres of oil.
40 to 1 ratio

This equals 25mls of two stroke oil to 1 litre of petrol.

What is the ratio for 2-stroke fuel mix? Most modern petrol garden machinery requires a 50:1 ratio mix of petrol to oil. This means for every 1 litre of petrol you must mix 20ml of oil.
When mixing 2 stroke (2 cycle) fuel the mixture is expressed as a ratio of fuel to oil. For example to mix 50:1 you use 50 parts fuel to 1 part oil, which equals one litre of fuel to 20 millilitres of oil or 1 gallon of fuel to 2.56 fluid ounces of oil.
Mix at 50:1 (20mls oil per 1 litre fuel) when you`re using STIHL 2-Stroke oil.
The relevant difference between regular lubricating oil and two-stroke oil is that the latter must have a much lower ash content, to minimize deposits that tend to form if ash is present in the oil when it is burned in the engine`s combustion chamber.
No. You should never use WD40 as chain lubricant since WD-40 is NOT a true lubricant. WD40 is primarily a solvent or rust dissolver.
Olive oil is another option you could bank on for your chainsaw bar and lube. If you have a handy bottle of olive oil nearby, it`ll work just fine for your chainsaw bar and lube. It has good lubrication properties, and it is biodegradable.
Use for lubricating moving parts, pivot points and bearings. Lubricate small to larger motors found in sewing machines, fans, lawnmowers and trimmers, drills, chainsaws, and other tools.
Advantages of replacing chain oil with vegetable oil:

Environmentally friendly – Using vegetable oil as chain lubricant poses no threat to the environment. Effective – Vegetable oils have natural properties including good lubricity, resistance to shear, a high flash point, and a high viscosity index.
