My troy bilt ”junior” wont go in neutral; in the neutral position, the wheels are locked. The wheels turn when the engine runs, forward & reverse, but I dont want to start it just to move it. Any suggestions?
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
The Junior tiller does not have a neutral selection. In order to free wheel the tiller you have to remove the pins that go thru the wheel rim hubs and then it will roll without starting it. Hopefully the rims are not rusted to the wheel shaft.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

In conclusion, if you`re having difficulty pushing your riding lawn mower in neutral, there are a few potential causes to consider. These include a damaged or broken drive belt, drive pulley, transmission, or drive chain.
Engage the transmission bypass rod to move the riding mower manually without starting it. The transmission bypass rod is located on the inside of the right tire near the rear of the riding mower. Engage the bypass rod by pulling out and down.
To fix a riding mower that won`t move forward or reverse, you should fix the battery, check for the air filter and carburetor, inspect the transmission for damages, replace the damaged drive belt, and inspect the spark plug. You must also replace the tires, and adjust the wheel position.
Recommended Services. The brakes are locked, the transmission is not actually in neutral (check the shift cable and/or manual lever on the transmission case) or the parking pawl has somehow gotten stuck or is mispositioned.
While the step order can differ slightly between manufacturers, they all follow the same basic procedure. To start your riding lawn mower, engage the brakes, shift the gear to neutral, open the throttle, turn the ignition, and then fix any issues preventing the mower from working properly.
Failure of any mechanical component, a broken hose, or clogged filter will cause tractor hydrostatic transmission problems. But the most common issue will be the oil itself. In the transmission section of your operator`s manual, you`ll find a section that covers oil viscosity.
