Toro

My Toro GTS 6.5 Recyaler dies afetr 30 seconds and wont run again untill you pump the Gas again. Someone said theresm some kind of a bulb under the gas tank thats cloged with trash but i cant picture it. Any place online i can look at a schematic to locate this area and clean it out ?
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
If you can see the carburetor, there is a small bowl that has a nut on the bottom side of it, remove this nut after stopping the fuel supply, inspect the nut and about half way up there will be a very tiny hole that you must clean out or unstop, this allows fuel to get to the main vent tube, and you can use a bread tie with the plastic removed; to unplug this hole or (jet). you may have to remove the air cleaner to see the float bowl. the nut is ususlly a 1/2 inch nut or 13MM. you can see a breakdown picture or diagram if you type in small engine, a carburetor repair and browse the pages a lot oftime i agree bit better than paying someone to unplug this hole for mechanics prices.

A Dirty Carburetor Can Cause a Lawnmower To Start Then Die

By far, the most common issue that causes a stalled motor is a dirty carburetor. The carburetor on your engine is the thing that draws in air and mixes it with the fuel. Contrary to what the movies might make you think, gasoline itself is not very flammable.

If your lawn mower starts, runs briefly, then dies these are the four most common reasons that`s happening: Dirty carburetor / clogged carburetor bowl. Old gasoline that has gone bad. Dirty or defective spark plugs.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the lawn mower for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
Why is my lawn mower turning over but not starting? The most likely reason is bad gas. Gas that sits for many months during the off-season will eventually break down, gumming up the fuel line and carburetor in the engine and preventing it from starting.
Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
Use Carburetor Cleaner

Fortunately, you can generally do this without even taking the carburetor out of the engine. Start by purchasing some commercial lawnmower carburetor cleanerOpens a new window, which comes in a simple spray can and will make it easy to clean the inside and outside of the carb.

The spark plugs are worn or damaged

If you find that your lawnmower keeps dying, or keeps stalling while cutting grass, then inspect the spark plugs. Look for signs of damage or wear. Something as simple as a cracked porcelain insulator can mean an electrode has been damaged or burned away.

A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
A well maintained and properly stored Toro walk-behind mower will typically last ten to twelve years and the larger Toro Zero-turn mower correctly maintained and stored may last between fifteen to twenty years.
Other things that could cause this issue are bad fuel, weak/colapsed/kinked fuel line, faulty spark plug, faulty ignition/coil, oil over full, clogged air filter, plugged/dirty carburetor, worn engine parts internal rings/valves/etc.
Mower Gas Cap

If the tank is sealed, the fuel becomes air locked, and the mower stalls. This typically happens after a short period between ten and thirty minutes and also depends on factors like weather and gas tank fuel level.

Being Overworked. One of the most common reasons that a lawn mower might stall while it is cutting grass is that it is being overworked. This is a mechanism that is intentionally incorporated into the mower to prevent the motor from being blown.

I have a toro gts 6.5hp model 20017. The enginer is overreving a lot. Is this the source of the problem or is it something else?
ANSWER : The way i set the govenor is, slacken the screw on the engine govenor arm, push the arm fully over to open the throttle wide open, now turn the actual govenor shaft within the arm in the same direction, fully retighten the govenor arm screw,

Toro recycler self propelled 6.5hp, 22″ (gts)
ANSWER : Hi steve16092…
You may have MAJOR damage to your motor because of overfilling the oil.
Sometimes you can bend or break a piston rod when the engine is overfilled.
Meanwhile you can check a few other things.
Take your plug out and ground it against the head of the engine with the spark wire attached to it.
You should get a bright blue spark, if not then check your ignition module, it may be faulty.
If you have spark, then try putting a little bit of lighter fluid/or gasoline in the cylinder and reinstall the plug and try to crank it…if it cranks, then you may need to clean/rebuild your carburetor.

What is wrong with a Toro GTS5 that starts well but dies 5-10 seconds later. I have changed the spark plug, air filter and oil. New gas too. Any suggestions? Thanks.
ANSWER : I had a similar problem. I’ll bet I took off the carb. 5 – 6 times and cleaned it with no success. Very fustrating! One time while checking the fuel level I accidently left off the gas cap, I started it and while running I put the gas cap back on and started to mow and about 10 seconds it died. I thought could’nt be! So I loosened the cap, restarted and it kept running. Any way the small vent hole was plugged. Thats my story!. Good luck.
