Lawn Mower Running Rich Symptoms
The engine may start to run louder than normal, and you might notice a decrease in power. The lawn mower may also run slower than usual, or stop running altogether. It is important to check your lawn mower`s air and fuel filter, and spark plug regularly to keep it running smoothly.
A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
If the carburetor is supplying an air/fuel mixture that is too rich, the engine may tend to load up, foul the spark plugs, run sluggish and lack power.
Q: How Do You Tell if a Carburetor Is Rich or Lean? A: One way to tell for sure is by “reading” the spark plugs. If the plug tip is white, the mixture is lean. If it`s brown or black, it`s rich.
This can be difficult, as engine oil is often out-of-sight, and therefore out-of-mind. But, Toro recommends that the oil be changed every 100 hours, or after the first 5 hours for brand-new Toro zero-turn mowers. Luckily, it is an easy process that anyone can learn how to do.
Your mower does not come with oil in the engine, but it does come with a bottle of oil. 1. Remove the dipstick (Figure 4).
Rich Mixture Symptoms –
1 – Engine acceleration is flat, uneven, not crisp. 2 – The throttle needs to be opened continuously to maintain consistent acceleration. 3 – The engine performs poorly when the weather gets warmer, or the engine works better in cold conditions.
If the main jet is too rich, acceleration will feel slow or stuttery. Close the throttle from full to about ⅞ open when RPMs are over 4500. If the engine accelerates, the main jet is too lean. If the engine hesitates or misses, the main jet is too rich.

Toro recycler will start until primed gas is consumed.
ANSWER : I had similar problem and cleaned the spark plug and that seemed to have worked, but I think that may be a temporary fix because the engine still seems to be running unevenly. I feel that it must be a larger problem with the carb. If anyone can help this novice to adjust the carb or clean both carb and filter, or offer other solutions I would appreciate your assistance.

Toro super recycler mower will not stay running, has fuel and oil and air filter was just replaced
ANSWER : Try replacing the fuel and spark plug. Gas may be bad. Get some fresh from the station not from the can sitting in the garage.Drain the fuel system and put the fresh gas in.HTHGood Day.
