There are a variety of reasons as to why your pressure washer may not start. Some of these include, a dirty air filter, lack of or old fuel, problems with the spark plug wire`s connection or a bad spark plug, water in the fuel or an excessively rich fuel mixture, or the choke is in the ON position.
Stale fuel that`s been sitting in a gas pressure washer may need to be cleaned out. If your gas-powered Generac, DeWalt, or Craftsman power washer won`t start, it could be because of old fuel. Fuel that`s been sitting in your gas pressure washer for 6 months or more can oxidize and become contaminated.
Begin isolating the problem by hooking a water hose to the washer`s inlet and turning it on. If water flows out the outlet, you know water is cycling through. If not, chances are your inlet filter is clogged. Remove and clean it, and you should be good to go.
Pressure Washer Won`t Start:
Fouled or Defective Spark Plug The spark plug ignites the air/fuel mixture. A dirty, cracked or defective spark plug will keep your pressure washer from firing up. Replace the spark plug, don`t clean it. Replacing the spark plug should be part of your annual maintenance routine.
Turn on the water. The pressure washer hose will fill with water, so it is important to purge the system of excess air before starting the unit.
As long as it has the SAE 10W-30 or SAE 10W-40 on the label, that`s exactly what you`re looking for.
If your washing machine won`t start and just clicks, there may be debris in the washer drain. Check the drain to see if there`s any debris (particularly large items, like coins) that may be stuck inside.

These include a clogged nozzle, a blocked inlet water filter, or a malfunctioning pump. It could even be the water supply itself – not the pressure washer. When troubleshooting pressure washers, the best approach is to check the easiest solution first and rule it out before proceeding to more intensive repairs.
