Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Lack of pollination or brown rot could be the cause. They are generally not self-fruitful meaning
they need a different plum and often a specific variety for pollination
and fruit development. If the plums were not full size and lacked a seed (stone) this was the problem. If not try a general fungicide.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
There can be numerous reasons why a plum tree drops its fruit before it ripens: insects, disease, high winds, and stress ( too much water, too little water, lack of nutrients, poor drainage, weed competition, and excessive shade, for example).
Storage tips: Plums will continue to ripen off the tree. Place ripe fruit in the fridge right away, and let unripe fruit ripen on the counter or in a paper bag. Be careful to check on ripening plums — they can go quickly from unripe to overripe.
When leaves go yellow it`s usually a nutrient deficient problem. Whether it`s just hungry for a total food-fertilizer or lacking in a certain element, it`s showing you something is not right. Plum trees are prolific in flowering and fruiting and need to be top dressed at least twice a year in the growing season.
Leaf spot of plums and prune-type plums is caused by the fungus Blumeriella jaapii (formerly Coccomyces prunophorae). The fungus, its life cycle, and the disease it causes are very similar to those of cherry leaf spot.
To avoid fruit drop as a result of overbearing, we recommend thinning the young fruit before the tree drops it. In general, it is best to leave 4-6 inches between each fruit and break up any clusters that may form. You may use small, sharp pruners to remove the fruit or simply pluck it off with your fingers.
A great example of this is the poem “Plums Are Falling.” This poem describes a woman`s journey of finding a suitable man for herself. The recurring line Plums are falling signifies the decreasing amount of available men that she is capable of marrying.
You can also use a paper bag to speed up the process (plastic will not work) if you are in a hurry. Place the plums in the bag and loosely close it. As they ripen, the fruit gives off ethylene gas. The paper captures the gas, but also allows air to flow in and out of the bag.
If you`re feeling impatient, you can accelerate the ripening process by storing unripe plums in a loosely closed paper bag on the countertop for one to two days. The paper bag will trap the ethylene gas emitted by the plums, causing them to ripen faster (so we suggest you check on them regularly).
The yellow plum is one of the most popular fruits to be eaten fresh and unprocessed. They`re delicious picked straight from the tree or bought ripe at market and cleaned. What is this? A ripe plum will be firm, but have a slight give to the skin as well.
A yellow leaf has lost its chlorophyll (pigment) and it can`t turn green again even after you correct the problem. Don`t worry, if the plant regains its health, it`s possible that new leaves will fill in during the next growing season. Growing plants is always a matter of patience.
Most likely Plum Rust. Symptoms are yellow spots on leaves caused by pustules of brown spores on lower leaf surfaces. The underside of the leaves will show stronger symptoms than the top. Infected leaves develop a yellowish cast; leaf shedding may be severe.
Trees in the genus Prunus, which includes plum, are susceptible to a fungal disease called black knot. Trees infected with black knot have swollen, hard, black knots on their branches.
Home gardeners often become concerned when their fruit trees begin dropping fruit prematurely. In some cases, fruit drop is nature`s way of reducing a heavy fruit load. In other cases, premature fruit drop may be caused by pests and diseases, adverse weather conditions or poor cultural practices.
Green Plum Jam is an excellent way to use unripe plums. You might have an excess of green plums due to pruning your plum tree or because of a surprise windfall. This 2 ingredient jam is a perfect solution, it`s delicious, quick and easy and needs no jam sugar or added pectin.

My Z5426 won’t start. When I pull out the choke and turn the key, gas starts leaking out of the exhaust system just before it gets to the muffler. Last time it did start, it ran really rough. So, I turn off the engine and then tried to restart and that’s when I noticed the fuel leak.
ANSWER : Maybe bad fuel, fuel line leaking, flooding of the carburetor, since it did start and ran rough I am assuming that the gas was left set and more then likely this gummed up the carburetor, you will have to clean/rebuild it. If you have a can of carburetor clean you may be able to spray that into there and clean it up, I would not choke it to start it as it sounds like it got/is flooded/ing. Good Luck Tim
