Couple of guys tried to help me on this, perhaps you guys could come back. I forgot to mention there is a pressure tank bladder type on the discharge side. Could the air in this tank be messing with the prime. I checked the intake. It has water in it after bleeding air from the discharge system where before it was dry before purging air. I think there is air in the system and wonder if it is coming from the pressure tank?. i open up one of the discharge valves and a lot of air comes out. Should I put a valve on the pressure tank to take it off line until I get water from the well?
Mar 12, 2010 – Could it be the check valve? I took it off and the flap appears to be working correctly. This well has been here a long time. Never given me any problems. I do have galvenized couplers on the discharge and intake sides. Old. Could these be leaking even though they show no sign of water? The discharge is able to hold 30 pounds easily overnight. I do not hear any vacuum in the intake when I take it off. Could the pipe to the well have a leak? I know I would have to insert a sleeve but I do not want to go through the hassle if I do not have to. I had put on a brand new pump from the hardware store that did the same thing so I think that would elliminate the pump as being the problem.
I disconnected it for the winter and rehooked it up. The galvanized couplers on the discharge and pump side are old but do not appear to be leakeing as I taped them well. The check valve seems to be functioning well as I took it off and the flap works correctly. The well is not pulling water. there does not appear to be a vacuum on the check vale when I losen it. could the check valve be bad? I am aware I might have to resleeve the well, but do not want to hassle with this if I do not have to. I want to eliminate everything else first. i put another brand new pump on it to see if it was that. That partiuclar pump which was the same thng did not work either.
I took the pump nose off and looked at it. The one way valve appears to be working fine. The impeller is working fine also evidenced by when I turn it on witht the discharge cap off, water shoots out. When I open one of the discharge valves and turn it on, the pressure drops to 10lbs. At this point the prime water has moved through the pipe and and the pump does not soound like it has any water in it. I pull the cap off and have to “reprime it again.” It again goes back to the pressure gauage rapidly fluctuating while pump on. I disconnect pump on intake side I hear no vacuum. The guage is on the discharge side. The seals on the pump nose do not look frayed or damaged. The pump is not leaking water in any of the joints. The pipes on discharge and well side do not appear to be leaking.
ANSWER : My friend, please boil your question down. Your title has to do with riding mowers but the leaking, bladder, impeller, air bubbles, pressure tank, check valve comments seem to be migrating toward a pump of some kind – well? spa? pool? irrigation?
Briefly, any system that involves a water source, a water moving device, water storage device and ultimate useage is subject to leaks … into the system and out of the system. If this is a well and you have air in your system, your pump may be sucking air at the well or any loose connection between the tip of the pipe and the inlet to the pump. Your bladder could have failed but from what I can get from your comments, this is not the case. On the pressure side, neither air nor water will leak in … only out.
Please recheck all connections. Make sure your check valve is installed correctly and not leaking. The check valve assists the foot valve, which may have failed.
I am more inclined to think your well may be at the end of its useful life. To prove or disprove, you could have a plumber put a vacuum gage on your pump. He or she can answer this question is about 90 seconds based on this test. Expect to pay for one hour of time, which will be less than the time you have already invested in your project.

TORO 20074A Starter not working. Battery is fully charged. Nothing happens when you turn key, I’ve had it more than a year so I know what it should do.
ANSWER : OK seems to me you have a connection problem. This doesn’t always mean that a connection where two wires plug together is bad. It could be a problem as simple as a mouse chewing thru a wire. Take your time and check the wire or wires that go from your battery down to the starter. You may very quickly find your problem. A bad contact, a broken wire, a disconnected wire, or that bad little mouse, which will lead you to the purchase of a mouse trap before he causes you any additional headaches. GOOD LUCK.
42 in. deck cuts even on right side, cut uneven on inside left. Mandrel is good and no bent blades, have checked and no problem with uneven deck but it will not level, I have tried repeatedly for 3 or 4 yr. Same problem with both mowers, one is a 97 model and the other is a 03. Am about ready to throw in the towel and go to a different brand of mower if this is not resolved, have talked to other owners of same type of mower and they also have same trouble, and it is also a problem with Husqvarna as well. Have been somewhat happy with this mower till the last several years, one other thing is the cheap metal used to manufacture the mandrel, have had to replace several on both mowers ans they are made of a pot metal instead of solid metal which is what you would expect from a Craftsman product. If cheap is where you are going with this product then I will never buy another one nor would I advise anyone else to do the same. I am not a novice at repairs, have done most all work on my stuff for about 50 yrs have been through Snappers till they went cheap and then tried yours, liked it bought another one and then the problems began hope you have a solution before I shove them in the pond.
ANSWER : Well if you are breaking mandrel housings you are hitting more than grass with your mower. They are not intended to be used as brush cutters or mole hill graders. Also, if you have broken a mandrel then you may have slightly bent the top of the mow deck where the mandrel housing bolts up. In order to see it you will need to remove the mandrel housing and use a straight edge to ensure the mounting surface is straight. Quite often you don’t need a straight edge; the damage is visible. Typically it will look like a dimple where the bolt head was sitting on the top of the mower deck. With the mandrel off you can use a hammer to pound the surface even. Sears also sells a reinforcement kit to make the mandrel mounting surface more sturdy or you could use fender washers to sturdy up the surface, but the kit is best as it gives support around the entire rim of the deck housing.
Ryobi troubleshooting Recently bought the two set package of 18V lithium batteries however the tool will not work. It was working however it has stopped . Tried two different batterie , both fully charged ,with no results.
ANSWER : The motor may have overheated and burned open. Use a multimeter to check resistance across the battery contacts in the tool with the switch closed. If it reads open, the motor has failed.
I just bought a two year old Huskee riding lawnmower yesterday and it was working fine through test drive and even got through 2/3s of the lawn before I had to gas ‘er up. After I put gas in it, it won’t start. It won’t even turn over. Went through the motions again (I’ve never owned one before so I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything correctly – choked, brake engaged, blades disengaged, geared in neutral with ebrake on as well as off.) Someone suggested putting some gas on the silinoid – nothing. We tried to jump the battery – nothing.I’m going home after work to take another look so any help you could provide me would be greatly appreciated. I saw a post with similar problems and one commentator suggested putting it for sale in his front yard and trying to get rid of it. Haha, I sure hope we’re not talking about the same mower. The seller had just put it out in front of his house that day. He lives down the road and told us we could come to him if we had any issues- so that is always an option. But I really want to know how to work on this puppy myself.
ANSWER : Checklist for troubleshooting:1. If all safety switches are engaged (blades disengaged, machine in neutral, etc) and turning the key results in either a “click” sound or no sound, test the battery with a voltage tester. It should be 12v to 13v. If not, you may need to charge it or jump it.2. If the battery has 12v, and you get a “click” or no sound on turning the key, the starter solenoid is likely the culprit. The contacts wear out from arcing over time and there is no repair but replacing the part. The solenoid can be tested by crossing the two terminals and bypassing it with a jumper cable. If the engine turns over when doing this, the solenoid is bad. If it does not, then the starter itself is bad.3. If the starter is verified as good, and the battery has sufficient charge, and the solenoid is replaced, and the mower still will not turn over when turning the key, then there is likely a safety switch not being made that you will have to hunt for. Generally these are brake switches, seat switches, blade PTO switches, neutral switches, etc.
