Once the motor starts, disconnect the negative black clip first, followed by the positive red clip. Be sure to drive the mower for around 20 minutes to give the alternator enough time to charge the battery back up.
This lawn mower is equipped with a self-charging electric start system that charges the battery while the engine is running. If the electric starter does not start the engine, the battery may need to be recharged.
Allow the charger to power up the battery for up to eight hours. It should have a full charge by this time. If you notice that it`s still indicating a low status, it`s time to replace the battery.
A small light mower with the same battery type will take around 90 to 120 minutes in order to function for 45 minutes. On the other hand, it takes 240 minutes to power up a small sit-on mower for 60 minutes. Big self-propelled mowers need 120 minutes to charge on a 50-minute operation time.
A new lawn battery should last between three and five years. In order to achieve that, however, it`s important to perform regular maintenance. Here are a few tips to help you get the longest life possible out of your battery.
Most manufacturers recommend charging your lawn mower battery at least once a month during the summer months and at least once a week during the winter months.
The lawn mower`s alternator keeps its battery charged. A few hours of mowing recharges it the same way hours of highway driving can keep your car battery mostly charged. You might not mow the lawn in winter. That means your lawn mower battery may be totally drained.
Most riding mowers take a 12 volt battery, although some smaller mowers rely on a 6 volt battery. If you`re unsure what type of battery your mower requires, you can check the voltage of your old battery, or look up the information in your owner`s manual or on the manufacturer`s website.
What should the voltage be for the battery in my riding mower? Riding mowers use a 12 volt electrical system. The battery should have 12.6 volts when fully charged and in good condition.
The factors that keep draining your lawn mower battery include damaged, loose, or corroded cables, an electronic drain, or cables that are attached loosely. Sometimes, it is as simple as the battery needing some maintenance. Other plausible reasons are faulty alternators, voltage regulators, and battery chargers.
Start your car and let it run for 5 minutes.
It can take the battery up to 30 minutes to fully charge, so wait ~5 minutes before trying your mower. After you`ve given the battery time to juice up, turn your lawn mower on as well.

I have trouble starting a toro walk behind mower
All, I thought my carb was shot, so I replaced it. Still, start but no run (and had to use starting fluid). THEN!!! I noticed the spring to the “rev limiter” (just below and towards rear of carb) was not “tight”. The stupid bracket that holds the end of that spring had been bent down ~1/16″ and that caused all this heartache. CHECK YOUR REV LIMITER!!!

Since you already checked for spark and air I would drain all the fuel out of it and check that fuel for water. Over time some lawn mowers end up with contaminated fuel. You can see the water sitting on the bottom of the fuel if you let it stand for a bit in a small plastic bowl.
Be sure to empty and dry out you fuel can as well. Especially if the mower stopped running right after a refuel. Which is a good sign your gas can is contaminated too.
