How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The clicking noise comes from a part called the starter solenoid. The solenoid connects the battery to the starter motor when the solenoid is energized. The key switch and the safety switches in the starter circuit combine to energize the solenoid. If the solenoid is clicking, the circuit that triggers it is working.
What to Do If Your Tractor Won`t Start, Just Clicks. If your John Deere won`t crank and all you hear are clicking sounds when you turn the key, you likely have a bad battery or a bad connection somewhere between the battery and the starter. Double check that the alternator and battery connections are clean and tight.
If it is difficult to start the ride-on mower, the most common reasons include: Old fuel; make sure to use fresh fuel, especially after winter storage. Spark plugs might be dirty or damaged. How to examine and replace a spark plug on your ride-on mower.
Usually a rapid clicking noise is a good indication that your starter motor isn`t getting enough electrical current to engage – basically your solenoid is trying to engage but can`t make the connection.
The starter relay makes a clicking sound, but the engine does not rotate, which indicates that the starter motor is not receiving enough current from the relay. This may also be a sign of low or exhausted battery power. Only when it transmits enough current to the starter, the relay starts to work.
If your tractor is making a clicking sound when you turn the ignition, this may be a sign that there is an issue with your tractor starter motor. If you hear a whirring sound it may be due to the pinion gear not engaging with the flywheel.
Your lawn mower turning over but not starting due to several reasons, such as a faulty or disconnected plug, a disconnected spark plug wire, a clogged air filter, or a contaminated fuel tank. A faulty carburetor, a dirty cutting deck, or a dysfunctional flywheel brake can also cause this.
If a mower is hard to start, it may be the result of a dirty carburetor and/or a clogged air filter. Use a screwdriver to remove the carburetor and clean any dirt out of it with a rag. Clean the air filter or replace it if it`s disposable.
Dirty/Clogged Air Filter If the air filter becomes too clogged with dirt or dust, there may not be sufficient air reaching the cylinder. This can cause the fuel to not burn, and the engine will not start as a result. If upon visual inspection the filter appears dirty or dusty, follow our Air Filter Replacement Guide.
An engine with low oil or low oil pressure can make a ticking noise due to a lack of lubrication. If you are low on oil, it may indicate either oil consumption or an oil leak, both of which should be addressed as soon as possible. If you have low oil pressure, you will likely get a warning on the dash.
Touch the metal shaft of a screwdriver to both of the large terminals at the same time. If the engine turns over and starts, the solenoid is bad and should be replaced. If the starter motor does not run, the motor itself is probably defective.
Why won`t my car start but the battery is good? If your car won`t start but the battery is good, the most common cause is a faulty starter – though it could also be to do with your fuel. You may have insufficient fuel to get the car going.
If you hear or feel the relay click, the relay and its wiring aren`t the problem. But if it`s not clicking, the problem could be in the relay itself or in the wiring.
If your starter relay has gone bad, the electrical signal will never make it from the battery to the starter motor. As a result, your engine won`t turn over – no matter how many times you turn the key. A faulty relay often produces an audible clicking sound when you turn your car.
Touch the metal shaft of a screwdriver to both of the large terminals at the same time. If the engine turns over and starts, the solenoid is bad and should be replaced. If the starter motor does not run, the motor itself is probably defective.
If your car`s engine is misfiring, it can produce a sound similar to that of a lawn mower. This happens when the fuel and air mixture in the engine is not being ignited properly, resulting in a rough-running engine. If this is left unchecked, it could lead to further engine damage and reduced performance.

Husqvarna 345e Hard to start and when it does start it continues to run (chain).
ANSWER : I have a model 435 Husky that had the same hard-to-start problem–warranty service replaced the carburetor and it seems to work ok now. I am unable to crank my mower. All I get when I try to start it is a audible click. The battery is good. The blades are not engaged. I have the brake depressed. I think it may be the safety switches. This was an intermitten problem at first and usually after turning the key on and off a few times it would usually start. Now it will not start at all.
ANSWER : Check the seat switch, especially if you are a skinny person, but if you are getting a click,(selonoid) then it could be your battery
