My GU 10 Halogen light bulbs keep blowing with the result of the face Shattering and Glass being spread across the room is there a Design fault with these bulbs.
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
I suggest checking your fuses and make sure they are the right ones for the right product.
If you arenot putting electricity through them i would say its a fault.I have used these alot and they are more robust than people think.
ven if you`ve got the lights second hand it is worth giving the manufacturer a call for there explanation. If you think about it they don`t want their bulbs breaking in that manner.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
If you`ve got halogen lightbulbs in your home, any built up grease or dirt on the bulb can cause a `seeding` of quartz over time. If left unchecked, this can eventually cause the bulb to blow because the crystals becoming too hot, but this is only usually apparent in much older bulbs.
Worn or corroded contact points. Replace the socket or get a new fixture. There`s a loose wire connection. Unless you are knowledgeable about electrical work and confident in your capabilities, hire an electrician.
Reasons Why Your Light Bulb Keeps Blowing Out. Loose Connections – Loose connections cause bulbs to flicker, making it appear like they`re wearing out. Make sure bulbs are firmly screwed into their sockets. If the problem persists, the connection issue might be with the fixture`s wiring.
As a general rule, bulbs should be screwed in firmly but not overtightened. If that`s not the issue causing the bulb to keep going out and coming back on, it may be that excess heat is causing the LED bulb to go off and on.
Most non-dimmable GU10 Halogen bulbs can be easily replaced with an equivalent GU10 LED as electrical current conversion happens at the bulb. Only certain bulb types do not do this and may need additional drivers to convert the AC current to DC.
How long do GU10 LED bulbs last? The average GU10 LED bulb lasts approximately 15,000 hours. This is excellent value for money compared this to the average halogen bulb which lasts approximately 1000 hours.
Halogen bulbs are a more efficient alternative to incandescent, but still have a relatively short life span of on average 2,000 hours. LEDs are the longest-lasting light bulbs, lasting for years longer than their counterparts, with lifespans of up to 50,000 hours.
Heat – Halogen bulbs emit a LOT of heat. It can be very uncomfortable to sit under halogen bulbs in a kitchen, work space or elevator. They can be dangerous to touch when turned on. High Pressure Gas – May require shield – halogen bulbs require some shielding in most applications in case they shatter.
Every time you use your halogen down light, you expand draw heat through the coils of the transformer which causes expanding and contracting of the metals. Over time, they become less efficient and eventually fail from the heat.
