Worn clutch – Since the string trimmer clutch engages with one or more drive shafts attached to the trimmer head to rotate the head when the throttle trigger is depressed, a worn-out clutch may prevent the trimmer head from spinning. A new clutch assembly is relatively inexpensive and easy to install.
When your trimmer starts and runs on choke, it could be because the check valve in the gas cap is clogged. Start the trimmer and gently unscrew the gas cap halfway off. Turn the choke off and assess. If the engine is still running, that means the gas cap may be the culprit.
If the drive shaft is broken, the string trimmer head won`t spin. The drive shaft is not repairable—if the drive shaft is broken, you must replace it. Need help finding your model number? If the threads on the drive shaft are stripped, the trimmer head will not stay on the shaft.
If the drive shaft is broken or detached, the trimmer head will not spin. To inspect the drive shaft, remove the engine assembly from the shaft and look to see if the shaft is in its proper place. Re-install the shaft if it has slipped from its place. If the shaft is damaged or broken, it must be replaced.
Why would the engine only run while the choke is on or with repeated manual priming? An engine that requires the choking (partial or full) after initial engine warm up is an indication that the engine fuel air mixture system is out of adjustment.
If your bike is only running with the choke on, it`s probably because it`s running too lean. This can be caused by a few different things: All internal combustion engines need three things to run: fuel, air, and spark. If any of these are missing or not working properly, the engine won`t run.
Cable or Shaft
If the drive cable breaks or becomes detached, the saw blade will no longer spin. You can inspect the drive cable by removing the engine assembly from the shaft and checking to see if the cable is still in place. If the cable has slipped out of place, it will need to be reinstalled firmly.
Something could be blocking the cap, keeping the line from advancing. To inspect and replace, simply remove and clean out the bump cap housing of any debris that may be impacting its operation. If the cap is damaged, replace it. The cap allows you to feed more line when you tap it on the ground.

ANSWER : You will need to pull the head off, as it sounds like the cable is off. there should be four bolts/screws, there maybe some in the middle also, gently remove the head(this is the top of the trimmer where the pull cord is, once you have it separated you can turn the cable by hand and the line feeder should rotate, if it does then look inside the head and make sure it is still square and not rounded. or you can pull the line feeder off and pull the cord and see if the cable rotates, whichever you feel comfortable with trying. Trimmer runs but the head wont turn – Craftsman Convertible 25cc. Gas Line Trimmer
ANSWER : It may be that the drive shaft is broken, or not engaged to the engine. Make sure the trimmer attachment is locked all the way onto the shaft coming from the engine. If it still doesn’t work, check by seeing if any of the other attachments work when you put them on. If they do, you know the drive shaft in the trimmer attachment is probably broken.

ANSWER : That means that it’s probably sucking air somewhere between the carb and fuel tank or possibly a restricted feed in the fuel tank.

How do you take off the spool head of a craftman weedeater and replace it with a precut line head?
ANSWER : You can remove the spool by pulling firmly on the tapper button to remove it. The spool will then be exposed and can be replaced. reinstall the button by snapping back into place.

Gas leaking out of center hole on gas cap sears weed trimmer 358795150
ANSWER : I had same problem and got a replacement cap at a small engine shop. Seems there is a baffle in the cap to allow the tank to vent and to close off to prevent fuel leaking. Appears rubber baffle deteriorates over time.
