The gas cap on a Poulan chainsaw covers the tank and keeps gas from spilling while you cut. It is also designed to vent excess heated gases to keep the right amount of pressure, which allows the fuel to be pumped into the carburetor via the fuel line.
STIHL currently recommends that you do not store or use fuel older than 60 days, and preferably no longer than 30 days, even with a stabilizer. Read more about storing your outdoor power equipment.
Without venting, your engine will be starved for fuel and it is even possible for the fuel tank to collapse due to the vacuum created when fuel is sucked out and air cannot replace it.
The fuel tank may build excessive pressure due to a blocked vent. This could cause fuel to spray on occupants or bystanders when opening the fuel cap, potentially causing injury. Additionally, if an ignition source was present, this could create a risk of fire, causing injury and/or damage to property.

My chainsaw leaks oil out of a small hole or drain just below the base of the bar. is there anyway to way to stop this
Are you sure you aren’t talking about the chain oiler system? There is to be a small amount of oil to lubricate the bar and chain.
Leaks oil in case from chain oiler
check the oil line, the oil hose has to be at the right place.
Chain keeps falling off – Poulan 18" Chain Saw Replbar (small Saws)
Your chain is too loose. If you’re using an old chain, you might need to have a link taken out of it. You can find replacement chains for your saw at Hyperparts.com. Use the application lookup link at the top of the page with your model # to make sure you order the right chain.
Poulan 14″ gas leaks bar oil all over, plenty on bar/chain, using thin synthetic oil.
Use actual bar oil sold for that purpose. It’s thicker and won’t run out like water. Synthetic oil is very thin does not have the proper density.
I was using the saw as a chain saw last weekend to cut up an old tree stump when the chain came off. I don’t know how to access it to put it back on and don’t have a user manual. The saw belonged to my late father and I don’t know if he even kept the manual.
You will have to remove the cover on the side the chain bar goes into. There should be one or two nuts holding the cover on the side. The is also a chain tension adjuster you may have to loosen to put it back on. Make note of the direction of the teeth on the chain. It is an directional chain. The tension adjuster is usually a flat head screw on the front side right beside the chain bar.Unless it is a really old saw, manuals are available from most manufacturers for free download. See if you can locate a brand name and model number.
Just bought a used leaf blower, homelite, gas leaks out of the gas tank, where the gas tube fits into it.
“top of the gas tank where the gas tube fits into the tank”
I assume you’re describing the gas tank cap. if so, the o-ring is missing from the gas tank cap. You can find those at hardware stores.
2 cycle mantis tiller leaks gas thru the carb. – will not start?
If it leaks gas,it can **** air.you have to find out whats leaking and stop it.
Chain saw chain stopped moving
Was it running and shut down and was froze or when you went to restart it was frozen? Two things I have seen cause this other than a seized engine. One – chain bound up. Remove side cover and inspect chain mechanism. Two- the pull cord is bound up. Remove the pull cord cover and inspect.
