Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
It could be a bad spark plug. When you get a new one make sure it is gapped properly .030. If still no spark it could be a bad on off switch. Take one of the wires off the switch and see if you have spark. If no spark suspect the coil is faulty.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

If no spark appears, check for broken wires, shorts, grounds or a defective stop switch. Once you have confirmed that the stop switch is working, reconnect the spark plug lead.
If there is no spark or if the spark appears weak, remove the spark plug and cap. Put the end of the spark plug wire near the engine`s body and pull the recoil starter to check the ignition coil. If there are now sparks appearing between the spark plug boot and engine, then the spark plug needs to be replaced.
Defective spark plug – Due to carbon build-up or a weakened electrode, a spark plug will degrade over time and be unable to ignite the compressed fuel and air inside the engine`s combustion chamber to start or run the gas-powered generator`s engine.
If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem. Remove a plug wire and insert an old spark plug or a spark plug tester into the end of the wire (the plug boot). Place the spark plug on a metal surface on the engine, or ground the spark plug tester to the engine. Then crank the engine to check for a spark.
An engine misfire is when one or more cylinders doesn`t produce power, and there are several possible causes, from a fouled spark plug to a clogged fuel injector or faulty oxygen sensor.
When couples say they no longer feel a “spark,” it may mean that they`re missing the initial feeling of infatuation or that long-term commitment has become challenging. Meeting your partner and falling in love may have felt exciting, new, and intense. You might have felt that it was the only factor in your life.
A fouled or bad spark plug is a plug that has become covered with a substance like oil, fuel or carbon or one that is blistered from running too hot. Driving with fouled or bad spark plugs can cause a host of problems for your engine. Symptoms of bad spark plugs can include: Reduced gas mileage. Lack of acceleration.
Repeated overheating of the spark plug tip can cause the plug to prematurely fail. Overheating can be caused by many things like pre-ignition and a malfunctioning cooling system. Pre-ignition can lead to heat building up in the combustion chamber causing the spark plugs to fail.

The ignition coil draws electrical power from the battery, increases its voltage, and sends the high-voltage power to each of the spark plugs. Two winding coils inside of the ignition coil converts the electricity from low to high voltage before sending it out.
