How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

A: The fuel-oil mixture ratio is 40:1. You can obtain this ratio by mixing 3.2 oz. of two cycle air cooled engine oil with one gallon of regular gas. Over a period of time oil will separate from gasoline.
The spark arrestor is a small screen that prevents the engine from emitting sparks. Over time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot. If the spark arrestor is clogged, the engine may stall. To unclog the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush.
What you may be experiencing is that, when accelerating, the intake manifold vacuum is decreased. Vacuum is used to change the vents from defrost to dash to floor. With a loss of vacuum, the system defaults to the defrost position.
Check for a dirty air filter and replace if needed.

A clogged filter limits the amount of cool air that passes over the heat exchanger, causing it to overheat and shut off. At the same time, your blower turns on to help cool it down.

Q: How do I mix gas and oil? A: Mix 3.2 ounces of Poulan 2-cycle air cooled engine oil to one gallon of fresh unleaded gasoline to obtain the recommended 40:1 fuel to oil ratio.
Fuel Mix. According to Stihl, gas and oil for leaf blowers should be mixed at a ratio of 50 parts gas to 1 part oil. This amounts to about 2.6 ounces of oil to each gallon of gas.
The fuel filter might be clogged. A clogged fuel filter is most commonly caused by leaving old fuel in the leaf blower. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog the fuel filter and cause the engine to stall.
These screens help prevent heated gases from escaping the internal combustion engines. In many countries, these screens are a mandatory requirement for not just all leaf blowers, but most internal combustion engines, such as cars, motorcycles, chainsaws and other lawn and garden equipment.
Sometimes the spark arrestor screen can become clogged up itself. Common symptoms include lack of power, especially under load; poor acceleration; engine won`t come up to full RPM; and higher than normal “spit back” through the carburetor.
If your carburetor is clogged, it can cause your leaf blower`s engine to die when the choke is disengaged. You can disassemble it, clean it, and replace individual parts with a carb kit. Once your carburetor has been unclogged, cleaned, and re-assembled using the carb kit, the engine should run with the choke off.
If you are using too lean of a gas mix, the pistons will not be lubricated properly, and they will freeze up in time. This happens very quickly when you use regular gas in a two-cycle engine. You will not be able to pull the draw cord to start the blower once the pistons have locked up.
The fuel lines on your blower carry fuel from the tank to the engine. If these fuel lines are obstructed, it can`t allow the proper amount of fuel to enter the engine, which will cause it to run for a short time, but ultimately stall out. You may be able to clean out the fuel lines and solve this problem.

What is the compression on a poulan leaf blower?
ANSWER : 60 to 70 psi it will start fine. I fix Poulan blowers every day for a living
they are very easy to fix. A common problem is stuck piston ring.

Poulan leaf blower no start
ANSWER : Switch is a continuous open switchSwitch is a continuous open switch No not the switch (has been disconnected)

I am not getting a spark
ANSWER : No spark can be a bad switch *(need to go in and unplug it from the ignition module and retest) or your ignition module has given up the ghost.

Get a t-handle set and go online and look up the parts. A module might cost more than a new unit….I think we both know what that means! Be safe and good luck!

How do I replace the fuel line for a Poulan ppbp30?
ANSWER : Open the top of the machine to access the carb, Normally it is easily done with needle nose pliers.

How come no spark?
ANSWER : I would change the plug first and check to see if the coil is firing by grounding out the plug and see if there is fire. If not the ignition coil or unit maybe bad. Hope this helps.

Poulan blower was running – ran out of gas – put gas in – won’t start- primed – won’t start – let sit – won’t start-took cover off – sprayed starter fluid in carb – won’t start- -(very little stutter) won’t start-set overnight – repea -twon’t start-wits end !!!
ANSWER : Hello
Does it use a fuel and oil mixture? You probably did that.

Try removing the spark plug and cleaning it with a wire brush or some emery cloth.Make sure you have spark by connecting the plug wire and resting the plug on the metal motor block.

Do not hold the plug in your hand ,if you have no spark you may have a bad magneto.

If the oil and gas are not quite mixed correctly will that make the weedeater not run
ANSWER : No it will not. If it is too lean of oil it will seize the engine though.
