How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
First step, check the fuel tank to make sure there is enough fuel to operate your snow blower. You should see fuel slosh around. Second step, check the spark plug. A wet plug means there`s fuel going through the fuel system and there may be an issue with the ignition.
The belts in your snow blower transmit power from the engine to the drive wheels and the auger. When these belts become worn or stretched they will start to slip, which will cause a loss of power. Since the two belts are located beside one another, it is recommended that you replace them at the same time.
A clogged carburetor is usually the result of leaving fuel in your snow blower for an extended period of time. Old fuel resting in your snow blower can also result in fuel evaporation, which may leave behind a thick, sticky substance. That sticky fuel can clog the carburetor and prevent the engine from starting.
Since your snow blower has sat idle for months, the gas could easily have developed gummy residue, which can make starting the machine difficult. Siphon out the old stuff with a small siphon pump, and follow these steps for how to dispose of the gasoline. Then, fill the tank with fresh gas and try starting it again.
In any case, it`s good practice to start with fresh gas after several months of sitting idle. After checking your fuel, press the flexible primer bulb (the rubber or silicone bulb usually located near the carburetor) three to five times to push fuel into the carburetor, then immediately try to start the snow blower.
Bad Spark Plug, or Loose Connector in Your Snowblower
Bad spark plug connections could also be a reason why your snowblower won`t start. You may also have a damaged or excessively dirty spark plug. Your engine may misfire if a plug is not properly plugged.
A snowblower that won`t start after summer storage likely suffers from fuel system contamination. Draining the fuel system and refueling usually solves the issue, however, a carburetor cleaning may also be required.

How do I know if the float level is correct on my 1981 5 hp Arriens?
The motor runs a couple of seconds when I introduce fuel thru the sparkplug hole, but will not start and run otherwise. Checking, fuel runs thru the line when I disconnect the fuel line from the carb. I removed the carb, inspecting to clean, and when I took the bowl I noticed it looked like the float is not in a level position. WAs stored with Stabil in it and somebody told me that that may have caused some problem but he was not clear what the problem would be.
ANSWER : Check air filter. Try to run without filter. If not, add gas through carb and see if she’ll fire. If she does,
clean the jet
(Ariens A173K22) the gas is leaking of air filter compatment and I can not get the mower to start. How do I ckeck to make sure that the spark plug is sparking before going to the next step. Also How do I get access to fuel filter and carburator.
ANSWER : Gas leaking out means carb problem. Do not use the unit until you solve the issue, as you are a fire hazard. Typically, you need to rebuild the carb.
Mower starts and immediately shuts off and wont start again if i let it sit for five minutes it does the same thing checked oil and air filter carb is clean attempting to find correct socket to remove plug
ANSWER : Pull the fuel line from the carb & see if it is running steady, If so the next check is the carb bowl to see if maybe the float needle is partly plugged, and then it could be the valve lash clearance which will require more mechanical knowledge.
My tractor stalls like it is starved for gas although the gas tank is full. I,ve changed the fuel filter and the gas cap. I’ve cleaned out the gas tank, gas lines, and the carburetor bowl. The problem seems more acute when the gas tank is full or near full. At this time to alleviate the problem, I blow through the gas cap and the fuel filter fills with gas and it runs good again. But as soon as the fuel filter has no more gas, of course, it stalls until I blow on the gas cap. As the tank gets down to about 1/3 full, the engine runs OK. What else could cause this condition?
ANSWER : I had a similar problem with a sears tractor. close to the carbarator is a rectangle box with a rubber hose going to the engine block – remove the hose and spray carb cleaner in the hose wait a few mins and try again – its a vacuum for the carb
