18″ Wild Thing Chainsaw
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Check for spark, if you have spark pour a very small amount of fuel down the spark plug hole, if it runs for a few seconds and stops. You have a fuel problem. If there is no spark, try a new plug, if still no spark you have an electrical problem. All is assuming you have compression. If no compression your motor needs refurbishing.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the chainsaw engine to stall.
Over time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot. If the spark arrestor is clogged, the chainsaw may run stall or run rough. To unclog the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush. You can also replace the spark arrestor.
The carburetor might be clogged and needs to be cleaned.
A chainsaw`s carburetor mixes air and fuel to start the internal combustion engine. If fuel has been left in the engine for too long, it can become sticky and clog the carburetor, preventing it from starting. If the clog is minor, clean out the carburetor.
If the filter becomes clogged, not enough fuel will reach the engine for it to run properly. Because your chainsaw will idle, but dies when it is revved up to full power, it means that the filter is only partially clogged; it will allow enough fuel to the engine to run on idle, but not enough to sustain full throttle.
A: Mix 3.2 ounces of Poulan 2-cycle air cooled engine oil to one gallon of fresh unleaded gasoline to obtain the recommended 40:1 fuel to oil ratio.
If your carburettor has a main jet adjustment screw at the base of the float bowl, turn the screw clockwise until you feel it just touch the seat inside the emulsion tube. Then, turn the screw counterclockwise 1 to 1-1/2 turns. Replace the air cleaner assembly and start the engine for final carburettor adjustments.
If the carburetor is clogged, it may only work with the choke engaged, which is not a good way to be running your engine. Cleaning the carburetor and replacing some of the internal parts with a new carb kit is a great way to get your carburetor running properly again.
The spark arrestor is in a different place on different models, but is part of the exhaust system, which means it will be near the spot where air leaves the motor. On most chainsaws, you will need to remove the slotted plastic muffler cover to access the spark arrestor.

I would like to go down A bar size our two on my poulan wildthing
ANSWER : I have a Poulan Pro 295 20″. When I bought it I also bought a 16″bar and chain and have been using those since. They make the saw much easier to handle and are a better match to the available power.
The key dimension is from the bar’s mounting hole to its end. At the store look at the normal replacement bar for your 18″ saw, and pick out a 16″ or even 14″ bar with the same dimensions there. This can be easily seen by laying one bar over the other.
I have a Poulan wild thing 4018. Just replaced the main frame. Had to take apart the whole saw almost. Now the saw will crank but runs at very high speed for a few seconds and then quits. I can goose the throttle a little to keep it running longer but dies eventually. What could be the problem? I have had the cylinder and piston out but didn’t touch the carb. Thanks
ANSWER : Make sure youmhave connected the primer hoses correctly, the shorter of the two connections on the back of the primer ( suction ) goes to the carb, this pulls fuel from the carb, the longer connection dumps fuel back to the tank, if you removed the cylinder end cap, you need to re seal this to the cylinder with instant gasket, also make sure the air tube between the cylinder and carb is correctly seated.
Need to have a manual on this wild thing so that i know the right ratios for the gas.
