Simply loosen the strap, take it off the motor, give the strap one twist, reconnect it to the motor, and tighten the belt. The belt now makes a figure-of-eight instead of a simple loop, which effectively reverses the direction of the motor.

Variable speed belt drives achieve the versatility needed to maximize application efficiency and productivity while remaining an inexpensive solution. In the most typical installation, a belt connects a variable speed pulley to a driven sheave. The pulley is mounted on a motor shaft and the motor is at constant speed.
This belt then turns the rear drive pulley that makes the mower move at the commanded speed/direction. Or maybe vice versa, but it obviously is the belt that allows the mower to move at different speeds/gears.
Where can I find a belt routing diagram for my engine? A: Commonly a belt routing diagram sticker is on the underside of the hood or in the engine compartment. If there is no diagram, make a sketch of the belt and pulleys before removing the belt. This will help you re-route the new belt correctly.
Belt rubbing and service life: In open belt configuration, belt does not touch itself; whereas, in cross belt configuration, belt rubs against itself. Such rubbing generates heat, accelerates wear rate and subsequently reduces service life of the belt.

I NEED A DIAGRAM FOR REPLACING THE BELTS ON THE 3 BLADE 46″ DECK. MADE IN 2007

Mtd 19 In. 173 CC OHV 3-In-1 self propelled. Drive will not engage. Appears as if the belt is too loose even when the drive control bar is depressed all the way. Is this adjustable? This mower hasn’t enough hours on it to stretch the belt, it seems in great shape.
ANSWER : Between the handle and the connection to the drive system, look for adjustment screw or nut and screw on cable. Maybe even check the spring tension, if handle is spring loaded and the spring is stretched it will not engage drive system. If no adjustment to be found then you must get new belt. Good Luck…
